Heard from a good source that Newcastle have hijacked Spurs bid for Duff and he will sign for the Toon in the next 24hrs.
Good player but we need some strikers

he will do well at either club imo. Very creative player which to be honest Newcastle lack (Tottenham have the likes of Lennon).
You do need at least one more striker though, write to Alan Shearer, I'm sure he'll change his mind again.

I'll believe it when he's actullay unvieled to the public. It'll just be our fat wanker of a chairman trying to pretend we're not skint

I think Duff would be a good signing + would probably choose us over spurs as I reckon he'd get more 1st team action.
Why we didn't sign Kuyt 2 months ago when he said he'd like to play for Newcastle (even before he had a good WC) only one fat fuck knows!

Because he's overpriced. Plus.. he had a bad WC, so he isn't worth the risk for the money they are asking for him..
Duff would be a good signing I think, but surely we need strikers more..

Agreed terms, on his way for a medical now...
quote: Newcastle United have confirmed that Damien Duff is set to become their first major signing of the season.
A statement on the club's official site, nufc.co.uk, read:
THE Board of Newcastle United PLC are pleased to announce that contracts have been exchanged with Chelsea Football Club for the transfer of Damien Duff.
The player, having agreed terms, is currently undergoing a medical.
Many fans had become more and more worried about the lack of transfer activity so far this summer so this announcement is set to settle many for the time being.
It is reported that Duff has agreed a £60,000 a week deal with United agreeing a £10m fee with Chelsea.
Quotes from Duff and Roeder still to follow...
Need some forwards tho..

Spuds supporters are saying its £17m, just so they can feel better about not getting him . Its really funny how bitter a lot of them have gotten over it.
I thought it was reported at £10m, if 5m is right, that is a cracking deal..

I had heard £10M as well, however today's Chronicle says £5M, saying that the article is written by Alan Oliver

Klose would be a good signing if they can pull that off. Makings of a good side at Newcastle.

That wasnt a dig at Newcaslte, just saying that for some reason you always have the players there but never seem to do much. Ive said loads of times in the past after you've signed some big name players that I expect you to do well, and then you dont seem to!

I know you weren't having a dig mate I was just messing about.
TBH we should have done much better than we have done. I think we've got to be the worlds biggest team that hasn't won anything for 50 years
I think if we could bring in Klose (you never know I haven't heard that anyone else is interested in him) and Ashton (West Ham are committed but I think they'd have to listen to say £12m + Milner) and then maybe 1 or 2 solid defenders then theres no reason we couldnt at least win a cup this year.

Ashton for £12M+ would be an absolute disaster especially when the figure being discussed for Klose is only £7M.
Hmmm... £12M + One of Englands most promising talents for an uproven hardly prolific Premier League Striker or £7M for the World Cup Golden Boot winner?

They got a bargain here, Chelsea bought him for 17m! Heres hoping this is the start of Newcastle becoming more competitive, could do with the Premiership being more interersting!
