must just be doing it to raise awareness for the charity for free. As you are right they will not have a sponsor on their shirt as it ruins the look.

they have signed a 5yr deal with them where Barca will pay Unicef ATLEAST 1.5mil a season and they will also have UNICEF on their shirts.
Alot of their fans think its just a way to soften them up to the idea of having a shirt sponsor in the future though.

They must miss out on so much money by not having a sponsor.
Why havent they ever had a sponsor?

Laporta said they had been offered a deal bigger than any other in football today, so missing out on ALOT of money. And no, never had a sponsor that I know of.

Tradition, they've never had a sponsor since they came to fruition and they believe by introducing one now they'd be selling their souls to the corporate machines that are now starting to run clubs externallly.

They aren't their shirt sponso... Barca are donating money to them but the shirt deal was a one-off...
Also, Arsenal will have Dubai on their shirts instead of 'Fly Emirates' tonight as Hamburg are also sponsored by them and for some reason FIFA don't allow it :S

Ive always been told the reason Barca dont have a sponsor is because they dont need the money. And i think what they have done with Uni-cef is brilliant

they needed the money a few years back, were in a fairly bad financial situation and even considered having a sponsor. Think it was when Laporta started his first term 3 yrs ago, but they found other ways and are making big big money now.

Barca send off 1.5% of proceeds from shirt sales.
Your right, not many teams would give money away like that.

you sure its not just 1.5m euros a year, and not 1.5% of shirt sales?

Because they are pretty much owned by the Catalan government and don't need the money, the common Catalan tax payer probably pays for Ronaldinho's perms!
