PS3 is still good value though.
If you want the latest technology you pay a premium.
It's always been the same.

I didn't even look lol.
Even better then.
Go and check the price of a blu-ray player.
Bet you can't get one for 420 quid.
Then you have the latest in processing technology to go along with it.

People who moan about the price should shut up and not buy one or get better jobs.

£400ish is about what I expected TBH, when people were saying its really expensive I thought it was going to be £700 or something stupid.

The price isn't bad, but IMO the DVD player in the original PS2 was crap enough, I don't trust Sony to do a better job with the PS3 so it ain't worth buying just to get a Blu Ray player - your best off with a proper device when they are more widespread in the market.

I dont have much of a preoblem with DVD player on my PS2 apart from its really quiet and I have to turn TV loads just to get it to a decent volume. Then when you finish watching DVD and forget to turn it down, next time you turn TV on you get the shit scared out of you

thing is though regardless of features it is expensive for a games console, yeah you get a blue-ray player; but how many people would actually buy a blu-ray player; especially when were not sure its going to take off.

Sony have made quite a few mistakes with media before.

most recently umd's for psp.

main issue with the sony formats is there just too damned expensive to use...

blu-ray is a gamble tbh, there hoping the ps3 will sell it to the masses, but i dont think it will...

high costs of using blu-ray + complexity of developing for the PS3 + initial cost of the PS3 will be its major downfall, developers will more than likely go elsewhere. Just because it has the latest tech, etc, doesnt mean it will be a big hit.

Hype will help, but take the PSP...

Loads of pre-release hype, and then... well lets just say I feel I wasted money buying one...

Every single ps3 will be sold out within hours.

Thats millions of blu-ray players in homes.
Developers will bring out games whether its hard to develop for or not and I read it wasn't as bad as the microsoft crowd were originally making it out to be.

but look how long it took for people to give DVD a chance, and CD.

MiniDisc was a failure, so was BetaMax.

Sony don't have a great history tbf

Plus PSP was always a gamble, but the PS3 will follow in the footsteps of the PS1, and PS2, and sell millions.

I can't see the PSP being a failure, Nintendos DS is just as much a gamble.

Besides, consoles have never been compatible with each other .

I've seen the dev-kit first hand, also had a play with it myself...

by saying 'Microsoft' crowd, you mean gamers, not developers...

Out of all 3 main devkits (MS, Ninty, Sony) the PS3 is by far the worst kit to use.

I do mean developers actually.
I was reading a forum where a high up microsoft developer was giving the ps3 abuse.

umd was totally different.
umd was for the psp and it was too expensive and proprietary.

Blu-ray is a valid contender to take over dvd and it's either that or hd-dvd that will win.
Thats a 50/50 chance.
What was umd trying to replace?

not replace but take over the market for portable media; ipod video ect.

which imo should have been easier to crack than the hd-dvd vs blu-ray market;but usual microsoft overpriced themselves out of the market.

which is what will happen to ps3, seriously i dont think parents will be happy that to make there kids happy they will have to shell out £400+ on a games console; when they will most probably not use blu-ray either.
