finished fitting it tuesday and couldnt wait to test it, filled it up with antifreeze, let it warm up and make sure there wer no problems, then went out for the first drive, and wow..... what a difference in power it makes, to look at the manifold how basic they look you wouldnt think it would give you any power, but i am very impressed with it. love it when it hits just over 5k revs
only got a couple of problems really, i need to find a cav or vectra td induction pipe from the filter to the mantzel, which i cant find anywhere, ive just bodged one up till i get one, also it feels like there isnt much mid range power its got plenty bottom down and top end but from about 4k to 5k there isnt much also it feels like the rev limiter is slowing the car down. The only mods i have so far are the mantzel, pipercross cone filter, magnex decat, and magnex full system. But in the near future i hope to have a spare head that i have ported and polished and a janspeed manifold and either a remap of standard ecu or chip at nobles in chesterfield depending on costs, i have a fse but have been told not to use it

got it fitted then
what you are describing is normal. forget the fse valve and get it remapped, makes a massive difference. dont forget the arp rod bolts and SBD rollers though if you want it to stay in 1 piece at 7400rpm

thanx for the comment, im goin to try and clean it this weeknd and get some pics now i have the speedlines on
definately worth getting a manifold mate, the only downside was the actual fitting, was a bit of a pig but once you have your head round it and have a few pics to look at its pretty straight forward

i love mine too. so much power at just over 5k.
broster, what differences will re-mapping make?
and is it worth mapping a near standard engine? ie, with no cams, etc etc

Yes, I have used Nobles.... lots.
cant fault them, Im very fussy when it comes to others working on my engine as I put lots of effort to make sure everything is done properly. theres not many places I would let near it! The lad there that does the mapping (darren) is very good, regarded as one of the best in the industry, he designed and set up the map for all of the Noble sports cars etc...
I wouldnt think twice about fitting arp's and metal cambelt rollers. its a choice of a few hours work and £150 or watch the engine go bang at a cost of £1000+ and weeks of work rebuilding it. I know what I would prefer.

the arps are the top end bearings arent they? ive been looking but cant find them anywhere, ive been in contact with nobles and they say they can do my a dastek unichip and map it for around £450, but they say if im looking at modding the engine that i am best doing the work then getting it mapped

the unichip made a 5bhp gain on my car, and made it pull loads better.

Take your engine to Swindon Race engines and let them play with it....
Will kill any "unichip" bolt on type fitter im sure.
ARP's are a MUST at 7000+rpm on the 1.6 engines... Or it'll go pop,

get SBD rollers from SBD:
www.sbdev.co.uk
best to ring them as their pricelist is difficult to use.
