Right,
Situation is this:
I know the basics of cars, but i want to learn more. In doing so ive decided to have a project track slag car

Which car tho,
My original plan is to get a 205 1.6 gti - change the rear beam ( 309 gti ) and drop a Mi16 with carbs on ( should take abit of effort but i will learn alot )

Or

Get a turbo car ( what car for under 1k ish ) and play with that instead.

or finally....

get a rear wheel jap beast and play with that,

ideas and comments welcomed.

I'd say for fun = Rear wheel jap beast drifting fun.

but not really 'for track use, as in going quick and driving properly.

However, I've seen you drive on track and I don't think you'd be able to control that

Afterall if you can spin a FWD small hatch on a simple bend, I'd hate to think what you'd do trying to drift a RWD car round one

106 xsi
205 gti
s13 200sx
e30 320i

they're what I'm going to be looking at when the Mini sells.

also, Citroen ZX (whatever the sporty model was) and AXGT, or a Clio (but they have gearbox problems apparently.

Fiesta XR2, would be VERY cheap, and VERY easy to fix.

anything really. what was your budget?

205 GTi is a good bet but don't bother with the Mi16 cause they are soft and track use can see them shit themselves in very few miles. Why not drop a 2.0 8v Turbo in it? My mate has one, 210 bhp in a 205. Drove it to Bruntingthorpe, never had so much fun.

there's a lot of people going back to 8v's in 205s now, as you can get about the same power as an Mi16, but with better delivery.

I still think you should turn your 106 Gti into a track car.

Get a decent set of shocks / springs. Uprate brakes. Strut braces. Decent tyres. Learn to drive it.

funny arent you.

Only reason i came out of that bend was because i put myself in a bad situation where braking was the only option.
Also i cant beleive you judge me on my first track session...........

considering the 205 with a 2.0 8v turbo as it furfills having a turbo car and good handling.

1.9 8v Turbo would be a good option.

I was merely making the point of learn to drive, not to slate your driving. but to say that your 106 gti is a perfectly capable track car if you drive it properly.

A lot of people on PGAC have 'track slag' 205's and a 106 gti is seen as a 'girls car' not a track car. Yet on track days the 205's with cages, etc are no problem for my 'non track car' 106 gti at all.

Was only making the point that you had 1 track day in your Gti, you braked / lifted off mid bend and spun it - so if you learnt to be quick (got some tuition at a track day or something) you'd find it was a capable car, even more so after a few mods.

Only thing with 1.9 8v turbo is you'll need to get a diff - I'd hate to have a v.powerful turbo FWD car with open diff on track, it's bad enough in my car coming out of bends.

I'd love a Quaife LSD in my car, would make it awesome.

the main reason i want a track slag is:
1: i was to learn more about cars so im going to be stripping it, taking current engine out and fitting a new engine( and obviously fixing al the problems i come accross)
2: I love my 106 too much to get it dammaged on the track.

When i spun out, i wasnt pooing it for my safety i was pooing it for my car to not get broken

dude, just buy a 1.9 205, it'll be fine for a first track car, then you can spend loads of time deciding if you want carbs, or a turbo, and you dont have to mess too much.
