Addtional match sponsorship by UKFlava and Footy Banter.
So what do we reckon then Greg?! There will be no Ole for this outing but pretty much the pick of anyone else, I can see them playing quite a mixed team again, but a stronger one than the Crewe game. Smithy will no doubt get a game, wether or not Rooney will partner him or one of the reserves is still to be seen. I think we'll stick with Kuzszack in goal for the time being too.
I see one of your strikers is out, is that going to make much differance to you?

Damn you beat me to it, I was just about to post this!!
Well I've been thinking alot about this game and I think the players have aswell, it's an awesome game to play for us but it's been a big distraction we didn't need.
You will deffo play Kuzszack I think thats 1 guarantee, I will also expect Smith to play (who will prob have alot of argy bargy with Maher & co )
Im also thinking Brown & maybe Heinze will play? It's a shame Solskjaear is out because he would of started I would of thought.
Apart from the above im really not sure what he will pick, our boys will be 110% up for this so im thinking Fergie might pick a slightly stronger team but I cant see (I wish tho) that Rooney, Ronaldo and co play some part!
Maybe Park/Giggs will appear??
From my point of view, Tilson has buggered things up bigtime our end, he has a well known centre back (clarke from blackpool former captain) playing in central midfield when Guttridge is more prefered option (whos always on the bench now) but Clarke is shocking in Midfield) and then our right back area is poor and hes moved our right back (francis) into right wing and a reserve all rounder (lewis hunt) into right back.
To be honest we are all over the place at the moment and Im really disagreeing on alot of Tilsons decisions at the moment.
Yes Paynter is out (cost us over £250k) and he is the biggest pile of crap i've seen, he wouldn't of started anyway, also Harrold (scored against wolves and hull) is also out cuptied That leaves us with Eastwood and Hooper (youngster) up front.
Barret (centreback who is quality) will be back (missed wolves game) and he will partner Efe Sodje I would think.
All in all we will be 110% up for it but I pray he starts Guttridge in Midfield and not Clarke, if he does we will give you a good game, if he doesn't we will struggle and loose by about 5/6-0!
Our confidence is terrible and if we can get a good start then i'll be fairly excited, I'd also like to see Campbell-Ryce play some part in the game.
All in all I hope for a good game and a game i'll probably never see in my life-time again. Come on blues I qued up all night long in the cold, make it a good one

This just in from PA:
UNITED BIG GUNS IN CUP SQUAD
Wayne Rooney and Cristiano Ronaldo could be unleashed on Southend tomorrow as
Manchester United look to book a place in the Carling Cup quarter-finals.
United needed a late extra-time goal to get past Crewe a fortnight ago, and
Sir Alex Ferguson has vowed to field a much stronger side at Roots Hall, with
only Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Gary Neville and Edwin van der Sar missing the
trip.
Ryan Shawcross, David Jones, David Gray and Crewe hero Kieran Lee will all be
involved but apart from those youngsters, the remainder of United's line-up will
be from his first-team squad. Even if Rooney and Ronaldo do make the trip, they
seem certain to start on the bench.
Team (from): Kuszczak, Heaton, Gray, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea,
Silvestre, Heinze, Lee, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Jones, Richardson, Ronaldo,
Smith, Saha, Rooney, Shawcross.

I'd say! Park must still be injured then, he hasn't had a game for ages! Although teams don't take the League Cup too seriously, if you do go in with the attitude that you will walk it, like I'm pretty sure we did against Crewe then you need to have a bit of skill in the team to ensure you do get to the "proper" part of the tournement.
Be a very interesting game then if we do play Rooney and Roanldo! To be honest Smithy can only get better now too. I think our defence will trouble you somewhat too!

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has confirmed that he will be bringing a number of his sides' big guns to Roots Hall tomorrow night.
Names such as Wayne Rooney and Christiano Ronaldo could be set to grace the Roots Hall turf when the Premiership leaders come to Essex on Tuesday evening.
The Red Devils will face Steve Tilson's side competitively for the time when they travel to Southend for the fourth round of the Carling Cup.
And Ferguson looks set to flex his sides muscle in a bid to make sure Man U make the quarter-final
"We got a nice little reminder a couple of weeks ago at Crewe that football is always there to knock you down," said Ferguson.
"We don't want another Crewe at Southend, so I will be sending a stronger team this time. We've some nice young players in the reserves, but they are definitely too young for this situation.
"We've got 15 players out on loan now, and that does restrict you in terms of blooding players in the League Cup in the way that we used to.
"Players such as Kieran Lee, Ryan Shawcross, David Gray and David Jones will be involved tomorrow, but it will be all first-team players apart from that.
"Maybe apart from the older ones, such as Ryan Giggs, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes, all the rest will be going."
That could mean that Rio Ferdinand, Michael Carrick, Louis Saha or even Wayne Rooney could line-up against the Blues
Team travelling is : Team (from): Kuszczak, Heaton, Gray, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea,
Silvestre, Heinze, Lee, Evra, Fletcher, Carrick, Jones, Richardson, Ronaldo,
Smith, Saha, Rooney, Shawcross.
