Morning everyone.
To cut a long story short, my computer recently died so I got a new hardrive, thus lost all my settings and the guy who set up my port forwarding is now long gone, so im on my own with this one.
I have a D-Link DSL-G604T router, and I have 100% followed this guide http://www.portforward.com/english/routers/port_forwarding/Dlink/DSL-G604T/Utorrent.htm every step, and I still cannot download anything! With neither azureus or utorrent.
Everytime I check if my port I use for utorrent is properly forwarded it says its not.
Within Zonealarm, I have given utorrent full access (everything is ticked).
The only thing I can think of is zone alarm is not allowing the port to be opened? I found a guide to how to open ports with zone alarm pro, but not the free edition.
Im absolutely baffled! Any help is mucho appreciated!

get rid of the firewall.. if your that insecure about internet, then get off it lol... firewalls only give you more worry because you see messages saying, microsoft etc etc is attempting to blah blah what have you.. and they just block things even though you set them not to. just get a decent anti virus. i use nod32 and havnt had any problems at all, and i can usualy tell if somthing suss is happening.. i was a computer engineer and you just learn these things.. sorry if its no help to you but just voicing my opinion on firewalls even though you didnt ask

I think its zone alarm, don't think you can open up specific ports with the free version. best I found was block all access on ports over 1374 which you could untick or try setting the port to be fowarded on your utorrent client and router below this
switched zone alarm off and I could download from utorrent

I would get rid of zonealarm too if i was you.
I have ZA tho and my azureus works fine through a router.

My ZA occasionally plays up from time to time and a qucik reinstall sorts it.
I don't need any port forwarding set up on my router. It allows all torrent clients through once ZA has given access.

Your router is a firewall anyway.

Yes it is but it does no harm to have a secondary to sit behind it.
As long as everything works fine with regards to program access and port setup then you should have no problems.

I run a software firewall as well as a router simply for the fact it gives you alerts whereas the hardware firewall doesn't
You should forward ports in the router settings as well as the software firewall for problem free connectivity.
EDIT: Assign a port number in uTorrent in the 49*** range (eg. 49555) and open that port in your router (TCP/UDP, In/Out) and allow the same port number through your software firewall.

problem is don't think you can open port numbers on the free version of zonealarm.
happy to be wrong tho if someone can point out how you do it. just couldn't see the option myself.

I've looked at the manual for v6.5 http://download.zonelabs.com/bin/media/pdf/zaclient65_user_manual.pdf
Browse to page 51/52 and read "Adding Custom Ports"
EDIT: If you are not running v6.5, here is the version selection page.

What are people wanting alerts for btw?
When have you ever been alerted to a genuine intrusion attempt from somebody that actually wants in your system?

I want alerts to show which programs are requesting Internet access.
I have to block a fair few.

I would guarantee that when you boot up your OS, 50% of the running processes that boot aren't even needed; you have to manually switch them off. I have primed my DAW XP install to exclude many of the default processes that run automatically.

Most processes get turned off when i can be bothered after an install.
Better to have a reg file to run after windows has installed, or edit the hives but thats a pain.
I can't wait to have a look at vista's installation kit to see how easy it makes things like that.

Yes, would save a lot of hassle with luck. I edited my registry then saved it for future reference......but made images of the whole drive to be sure.

I mentioned that earlier in the thread and yes it does....in my experiences though I prefer to keep the software firewall running for added peace of mind.
