Don't want to spend an absoloute fortune, only really needs to be able to connect to a wireless network & not be too big
It's mainly for doing coursework on & wont be running lots of demanding programs. Possibly only IE & word at the same time
Any suggestions? Im a complete noob when it comes to these things!

The advice in this thread is shocking. People recommending laptops with 256MB of ram that onboard graphics that will use some of that? You should be shot for that.
Also, Celeron-M processors are infact very good budget processors. AMD laptop based processors arent very good (and im an AMD fan). They use more power and are slower than their Intel counterparts. They arent terrible but arent the best.

are you of CHUMP? I suspect you are.
Matt said he wanted to use it for word docs and the internet. Why the fcuk would you need anything more? Pointless spending extra £££ on expensive hardware you won't use.

a laptop with around 224MB (which is about all you'll have after the onboard has had its fill) is a joke and will barely run windows at any sort of speed, let alot much else. You can get laptops with 512MB of ram for not much more at all, hell, even 1GB is pretty easy to get for under £400.
Why the hell would you buy a slow laptop with barely any ram at all when you can get one with much more for not very much more price wise? More so when its within the price ranges posted.
