Being serious, the punishment will most likely be much much less than it would have cost the fanny to be insured.

A lad in my college class drove his dads car on his own fully comp policy, he didnt read the T&C`s that came with his papers, turned out he had to be 25 to drive any car, he went to court and the judge gave him 6 points and 550 quid fine, he already had 3 and was in the probationary period so he got his license taken away and had to resit his test

Depends on the speed or area he was caught driving in - i.e. over speed limit etc then the fine etc becomes alot bigger, also depends on past driving - banned before? etc.

Sometimes i believe its anything from banned+fine (between 3months-1year+) or 3months jail + banned + fine thats dependent on speed (breaking any other laws) i do believe.

the 6 i quoted were for "just" no insurance. there is a full page of no particulars, speedings red lights ect. not one theft or shoplift this week in our court

I'm sorry but what IDIOT would drive around thinking they have insurance when they don't?

Your insurance certificate tells you when it expires, you also get reminder letters from the insurance company telling you when your insurance is due for renewal, and finally any person with at least half a brain cell would know anyway when their insurance is due for renewal.

Insurance companies normally renew your policy automatically unless you tell them not to, to avoid situations like the above, so your friend has no excuse really and should learn to give better bullshit stories.

The only way id drive uninsured was if someone in my family was seriously hurt and needed to get to hospital and all 4 wheels had fallen off the gsi

Unless he told them to stop the cover, he would still have been covered until they got a response from him, especially so soon after the expiry of the last premium so yeah......big steaming heaps of bullshit.

EDIT: ps. Tell 'your mate' he's a cnut.
