Ok took into account some ideas and talked to a couple of people this last week.
As some no i have a little 1.4sri corsa. looking at improving the look but performance of the engine.
sadly can't go to a 1.6 16v or above due to insurance 
so ill have around about £700/800 give or take to randomly spend on the engine.
Current ideas, mainfold, decat? worth the risk of a £1000 on the spot fine or not? drilled air box, viper filter, unichip + remapped ecu.
still not 100% sure but would like to get the best for the money tbh

imo you should spend the money on gasflowing/skimming the head, that will give some nice gains and also will compliment any other mods you do to the engine. a lot of people will say dont bother doing it just change the engine. dont listen, my 1.4 sri engine was awsome and very quick. still miss it!

Already skimmed the head
What did you do with your 1.4 sri engine?
had a race with a 1.6 saxo today side by side until i hit 5th gear and slowed down to let him in otherwise he would have been in the back of a land rover
But would be nice to get some more power tbh.

You can't go for a 1.6 because of insurance ? Can i ask what age you are ?
I have a 1l 12v you should feel sorry for me! lol  But i'm in the same situation as you, i'm only 18. This car will do me untill i build up some no claims.

Should get a 2nd hand inlet manifold (i.e mantzel, dbilias, velos, or cheap cheap replicas) and an exhaust for that money. Maybe only the inlet and fitting if you're not handy with a spanner.

Ah i have the exhaust remus racing pipe with a magnex oval backbox
@ wonderboy im 18 with 0 no claims - £795 for a 1.4sri own insurance, fully comp.
so looks like the manifold is a top tip so far

I got my head skimmed for around £100.
Hrm sorry im a little rookie on the engine sides so it's just working out what everything does, advantages of a nice performance inlet?

lol, indeed i suppose i got lucky? they then insured my alloys for £1000 for free etc i was like

Advantages on a performance inlet, well just ask anyone on here!
I put the Mantzel box on my STANDARD C16XE, then got it set up on the rollers and it came of with a proven 137bhp, nice . . .

Well fitting them is not hard at all, sometimes people can get confused about vacuum hoses etc
Mines up for £350, it's in the for sale section, there's some pics over there.

I just thought i'd ask what engine it was, no point everyone saying fit a mantzel inlet assuming its a 16v....
Theres not much scope for mods on a 1.4 8v injection engine, maybe fast road cam, head work etc..
But tbh, is it worth spending £700/£800 on a 1.4 8v?
I'd guess the insurance increase wouldn't be that much to fit a 1.6 16v.

ah well, when your at £795 for a 1.4sri 8v to go to a 1.6 16v it hits £1600+
+ then spending to the tune+everything else on a 1.6 would push me to near £2000 on budget only have £700-800 atm.
Was going up to a c20let in aboyt a years time. So it's just something to at least give the car a little bit more than what it has.

dont bother unless you are going to fit carbs (could be done within your budget possibly) no other mods will give any decent gains for the money you have to spend.
