Hi everyone, as some of you know I had my x14xe engine fully rebuilt back in september, I have done 3000 miles in it since. Everytime the engine gets hot, the tappets get quite loud. Before it was rebuilt it used to tap like mad (really loud)! It is no where near as loud anymore, but still taps a bit when warmed up, it is only noticable when idling.
Is this normal?

Are you SURE its the tappets, the injectors have a loud tick noise on most Vauxhall engines.

Its only really audible when the engine warms up, I would have thought if it was the injectors it would happen whenever the car is running? By the way does the x14xe have hydraulic lifters?

semi synthetic is shite though, as if I'm going to put that in there on an engine that was rebuilt 3000 miles ago!

That is what Vauxhall say to use, and the engine was new once upon a time with 10w40 in it! What's the difference now?

Mine taps a little from cold, once the choke goes off then goes away when warm

Fully synthetic oil could actually stop parts that are meant to wear or bed in from doing so. eg piston rings. Not best to use after a rebuild.
