Ps3 does not cost twice as much steve.
Unless you can buy a 360, with a 60gig hd and hdmi, capable of playing hd movies for just over 200 quid.

component does a good enough job for me, what advantage does hdmi have over component, or VGA input?

Do component or vga support 1080p?
Also, if studios decide to, you won't be able to output full res to anything not fully hdcp compliant.
Don't suppose thats relevant for the 360 though, since it can't output proper hd anyway.

If nothing else suffers because of it, higher resolution can only be better.
There are no downfalls.

I've learned not to argue with the 360 crowd on here because you can shout louder.
Yes though, supporting a higher resolution is a geek argument
Loads of tv's now btw to answer your question.

Outwith the ps3/360 argument, I always try to have whatever piece of equipment that is most up to date and can do the job best.
I woudln't buy something subpar then say oh I could have bought that one, but I wanted one that could only do some of the stuff that could.
Its a waste of time though as i've said before.

Majority of people dont have a TV that supports 1080p and i doubt they will all go out and buy a new one just for better resolutions

Well lets forget about res.
You need at least dvi for hdcp.
Both hd-dvd and bluray have measures to limit what is displayed on non hdcp compliant hardware.
Is the 360 hdcp compliant?
I don't think it is.
That will eventually be an issue.

Ms can and probably will have 1080p support.
The 360 v2 has hdmi and a 1080p chip.

So you are again brushing off a bad point of the 360 with i'll just buy something else to do that job.
It really is never ending.
I take it you have no need for higher resolution gaming.
If you ever do get a 1080p tv you'll just go and buy another console.

First, the company will ship the Xbox 360's long-awaited HD DVD player add-on in November at a much-lower-than-expected $170 price point. Second, Microsoft will be adding true 1080p support--the highest-resolution HD format currently available--to the Xbox 360 through a free software update.
