I haven't posted on here for a few years, so thought I would update you all as to I've done with the car.

My car started its diet today, its arse first.

Ordered roll cage and suspension.

Well I attacked the car again today, removing some more parts.
Removed the carpet.
But i'e left the yellow sound deadening in for the mo, untill the cage is fitted.
Removed the headlining.
This is what come out.
I also found something once the carpet were removed that wasn't to nice
The hook that holds the drivers seat next to the door has decided it don't want to be welded to the car anymore, it is cracked between the spot welds and almost completely broken so tat had to be welded up.

Got bored at work today so I removed the black tarry sticky sound deadening panels from the inside of the roof. Took two hours and it was right crap job to do, but looks a million time better now.

i got rid of the crappy black sound deadening from the rear of the car today.( Bored at work again)
I used an old slotted screwdriver that had completly rounded off edges and an old 1" scrapper that was rounded off and had no burrs. A bit of patience, plenty of white spirit, and a spontex sponge with nylon brillo for scrubing. Didn't have to use a heat gun.
It looks so much better without it.

went to my mates garage (lee303 from mig) to fit the cage.

painting the inside.
Primed the cage, rubbed down and primed the rear arches and the rear half of the floor pan,
found a load of rust under the sound deading in the spare wheel well, so treated that.
I painted the inside the same colour as the car but no lacquer.(I can't be arsed.)
Given the cage 2 coats of hammerite hammered black for that rustic look.
Also redone/tidied/retaped the loom

Went up to mates garage again and fitted my suspension, with the whole job taking less than an hour and ot a spring compressor in sight.

Looks a nice project! Looks a lot tidier stripped out with the sound deadening removed. What's next?
Is that rear spring sitting right on the beam?

No, I bloomin well wish I could go tho.
Got to get the car taxed, mot, and give it its last full service before it becomes just the weekend weapon.
So funds next month are very tight.
Will be at combe in april, the 'Ring' in may, I'm also doing bedford with the missis in june too.

The cage was just thoroughly cleaned, red oxideded and normal primed to.

lee is going to the CS trackday?

the cars a 1994 gsi on an M.
I have had it for five years and kept it bog standard.
Its got a Courtenay panel filter and modded air box.
full s/s janspeed exhaust, Courtenays 16g pagid discs and Mintex m1144 pads.
The cage is an OMP jobbie with removeable diagonal, and yes it is designed for the car. In theory its designed so that the rear seats can be retained.

Yeah I know what ya mean, we thought that they were a bit short but I think they are like that so in theory the rear seats can be used. We just made a small box section with captive nuts for the mounting.
But then again it was either wait 2 weeks for one of the shelf from Italy or wait over a month for one from safety devices.
So we made best use of what we got.

yes.... you can get sizes 
but if your using it on track i know what i'd preffer 
fitting shouldnt be an issue with sensible offsets and ride height either

Well I've done plenty of track days etc on these rims and they feel ok.
I suppose its a case of "I would notice the difference if I did use 15" wheels".
May just wait and see what comes up 15" wise, until then use the 14's.

Gave the car a clean today and fitted the new shoes at the same time.
Looks much better now.
