Ive got a 1.6 corsa sport and the engine is burning oil, going to take it out when ive got time and see whether its a new engine time if so would i be better gettin a gsi or sport engine to replace it is there much difference.

get a later sport engine from either a corsa or tigra. theres no benefit in fitting the older c16xe.

The reason i ask is that my bro got a gsi and seems way faster than mine. Mine only done 80000 miles and a t reg but burning oil really bad

i can get a red top for 200 quid but aint sure how much it would cost to fit into corsa. Hope to fix mine other than gettin new one. Just want a fast car!

i'll try and dig out the corsa gsi brochure later and scan it in to show you that vauxhall deemed it there new ecotec engine at launch!

it wasnt ecotec, ecotec had a exhaust gas recirc valve early ones did not

I think you will find the engine was called ECOTEC all along Steve.
As for the GSi being quicker, it's down to the weight, not the 3bhp...

The engine was called Ecotec during development, ALL of them are ecotec engines.

I do not know, but i knew some guys at peter maiden, and he'd tuned vauxhalls all his life and was a rally driver, he said they were not ecotec, the early ones, they had a cosworth valve, later ones didnt

They ARE ecotec, they might not have an EGR, but the engine is CALLED ecotec.

How is an EGR valve known as ecotec technology?
If you read what ECOTEC means, you'll understand how an engine without an EGR valve is called an ECOTEC-4
