Firstly I liked to say, "wow, what a car" and I wish I took clean boxers
Anyway, here is the missus playing with the camera as she was bored by MK.
Here is me ultra excited by MK.
Was follwing a black Monaro VXR on the way to Banbury. Strangely, it wasn't going to 888.
Anyway, got there a bit early but was allowed in.
The missus spotted these
All I could get a glimpse of for nearly 45mins
Ever wondered what an Astra shell looks like?
Engine from the rally car, I think.
I want these, not sure they'll fit under my 13" Softies.
The unveiling - sorry about blurredness in any of the pics, couldn't get the camera working well.
Triangle effect everything goes throughout the car
Requested under shot of the exhaust it is the same setup as on the Astra VXR apparently. The diffuser actually covers the rear silencer so is performance enhancing. The gills/vents and spoiler are purely cosmetic.
Wheel - blue callipers are These cars have the optional 18's on.
Interior shots - seems to have a lot of equipment inc MP3 CD player, heated seats etc not sure what were extras and not.
With the lights on - very cool indeed
Engine shots - weren't sure what the turbo was so took a few
They could have cleaned them a bit better - each car covered about 30 miles (and yes there is 10, yes 10 in Luton!)
Rear lights - these are smoked (obviously been scouting CS) and they are cool. Standard rear light on takes 3 bulbs
I love the hidden wind screen washer jets - has odd sized wipers as well
The missus just had to try it for size - sadly she wouldn't get on the bonnet
Now for just some random pics of the car, including the crayola stencil of the VXR badge
This shows the smoked lights especially well.
Right, some details I'll try and remember about the car
- The spoiler, vents and gills are mostly cosmetic the guy said, then adding "at this stage" so christ knows what they might have in the pipeline.
- The diffuser is performance enhancing.
- The 18's are optional extras
- The car is a whole load stiffer than the standard D - suspenions 25% stiffer but only 12mm and 19mm lower (can't remember which way around, sorry)
- They have gone for the triangular (think it's called monocoque (sp?), could be wrong!) theme throughout. Including triangular grill, exhaust, wheels, mirrors, side repeater black plastic bit etc.
- Seats are standard, but extra for full leather. This is undercutting the Clio, which he says is the main competitor.
- It has a torque over boost function when you put your foot down for 5 secs or something.
How proud Triple Eight are of their trophies. On top of the fridge in the canteen.
Trucks are immense, I want one.
All in all it was a really good night. The tour was interesting, as they showed us the stages of building a car at to what extent the go through etc blaa blaa the missus actually found the tour interesting
if you've got any more questions, ask, and I'll try to answer.
The VXR website is updated today (haven't been on yet) with all the details. Brochures are available soon at the dealers, with cars being their mid April.
Oh, I almost forgot, the best thing about the night:
VXR Haribo I have about 5 packets spare as they were handing them out when we left.

That corsa look shit IMO. Dash looks plasticky and cheap, and the back end is awful.

The more i see it in red, the more dissapointed I am.
Like the astra, it shines out in blue, but looking at those pictures, it looks too much like a bubble car..
Have to say, the Clio sport looks better, looks wider and meaner at the back.
Exhaust looks like it follows the standard corsa exhaust route (to the left when looking at the back), then goes into a "car width" rear silencer, then into the tailpipe. Probably like the astra in the terms of quiet at normal running, then rooooarrrs like a cat having a mental Hissing fit under full load.
Aye, think it overboosts to 192bhp for a few seconds for "overtaking."
That car will handle well though as its in cometition with the Clio sport, and Vauxhall have spent (sorry, Opel), have spent bloody years developing this car.
Its nice, but i'd have prefered the OPC Model C to come out, and in the modern hot hatch era, i'd still much prefer the astra.

Are the standard wheels the same design?
They're different on the Ashtray aren't they?

im going to get slated for this, but i think that looks a lot worse than the pre production pictures, the dash looks cheap, the car doesnt look in proportion, astra vxr looks a million times better.
flame away
edit: just read and even daimo dont really like it

I like it, looks much better than the Clio IMO and I think it will look better in arden blue TBH.
Love the optional extra 18's, looks like they have been diamond cut.

Cupra Steve - I can imagine the seats to be very supportive, but I'm only 5'6", weighing about 8.5 to 9 stone, so, I don't exactly fill them. Oh, and the car was only stationary. The back seats are nice too
Robin - the standard wheels are more of a 'V' shape than what the 18's are called, the 'Y' shape.
Thoughs that have slated it, I can see what you mean. But I think you can agree it is a damn site better than the D in normal guise.
What I like about it though, is that they've thought of everything. Smoked rears, subtle spoiler, right interior seats, flat bottomed (with marker at the top centre) steering wheel, MP3 cd player, heated seats, hidden wash jets, the lot.
I like it - just you lot wait till you see it in the flesh

Ah, so all the press shots have the 18s and no-one actually knows what the 17s look like then I suppose that's logical though, if the 18s look better, they;ll be on the press cars.

I agree, looks better than the standard D but, IMO, the C is a much better design - the D just looks like they've tried to hard to fit in with Clios, Puntos etc. Also too much cheap, shiny plastic inside which is asking to get scratched to fuck and look a right mess.
