Seems to me that its just packed with useless features, Whats wrong with XP as it isnt so hard on the computer so it can complete more meaningful tasks than transparent screensavers and flashy dialog boxes.
Thanks.

The problem with XP is it makes you post in the wrong area, apparently.

Vista isn't bloatware either.
If your computer can't run it you need a new computer, or go back to xp.
There is much more behind the scenes than flashy dialogue boxes, which are actualy quite good anyway.
MS can't win.
People moan about security and osx looking better, now there are idiots moaning about it looking good and things like UAC being too restrictive.

I think its pointless, I can create a good sense of security with a decent firewall and some know-how and keep 40% of my ram and processor usage.
If I wanted it to look jazzy there are other applications that can create different guis for windows windows blinds etc.
why waste power on transparent windows?
Thanks.

The transparent windows use your graphics card power, what else are you using that for on the windows desktop?
Vista uses all the ram it can get its hands on, why leave it sitting there empty instead of using it?
You obviously don't know how it works at all.

can you switch all the crap (transparent this and that and flashy crud) off?
Underneath they've done a bloody lot like seperate rate the different "engines@ (don't know what you call them) from the kernel, so if one of them crashes i believe you can restart that part instead of crashing the whole computer.
OSX is flashy, but its pretty damn quick and works. Windows just takes a bit of pissing about for it to work the way you want it to.

the biggest problem with vista is the way it handles dx9 hardware and software, which of course is still 90% of stuff out there.
It has to output dx9 via a SIL, this means instead of dx9 media being sent straight from the application to the HAL then to your speakers or monitor etc it gets sent straight into SIL, then the CPU converts it to be compatible with the HAL, then it get output. This is a hell of a load on the cpu

90% try 99% steve.
As for Vista being 'Bloatware', WTF?? its the same when XP came out with the flashy themes and visual effects. Just switch the bloody things off from Advanced Settings. It will look exactly like win2k and XP, but has all the added benefits and features that Vista offers.
I have already edited services.msc to switch off all the redundant background services to get some more resources back. Runs just as fast as a barebones XP Pro setup.

no-ones forcing you to upgrade.

rpm - vista will be running faster than your same pc with xp on, i bet ya
all transparency effects are handled by your gfx card, so in theory will be faster than a legacy drawn desktop due to it being direct3d accelerated

TBH i think most people just want to shoot vista down when they clearly have no idea. If its too 'flashy' use 2k etc

Yup a lot of the slagging if from people that don't know what they are talking about like saying "Oh Vista now uses 2GB of ram".
The fact that MS get thier OS anywhere near osX in style and reliability is a hell of a achievement consdering the range of support its got.

no its not. flashy gimmicks and effects is what helps Vista become attractive to stupid people. Its what extra features Premium has over Basic is what really counts, like proper networking

lol proper networking.
Whats missing from the networking? just the remote assistance.
it shall still support tcp/ip and file and printer sharing.

Networking on Vista Basic is just as shoddy as it was in XP Home

As long as it has the basic clients of tcp/ ip and the rare use of ipx, then you shouldnt really have any problems.
