right so the 1.4 sport 16v engines give out a total of 88bhp as standard so what would be needed to get around the 100bhp mark? i was thinking sports manifold, cat back SS exhaust system, enclosed air filter and maybe cams!

dave is right though, if you cant due to your age then put some money aside towards a 1.6 when you can. i think you will regret putting money into the 1.4 sorry

Why can't you insure at 1.6 til you're over 21?

I insured a year old saxo VTR for £800 Fully comp when I was 20.

The key to power in these engines is the inlet. Vaux fitted a shitty inlet, with around 6ft of tubing from Air filter to Throttle Body. If you get a Mantzel or one of the cheaper copies, you will be impressed, even if it is a 1.4.

thats beacuse a vtr is group 7, a 1.4 sport is group 6 and a 1.6 sport is group 11

Group 10.

The modified 1.4 will be more expensive to insure than a standard 1.6

Shop around for insurance.

I regret spending money on my 1.4, I wish I'd had a 1.6 from the start.

Yeah, but the 1.6 will still drive better than an inlet/exhaust/chipped 1.4

As I said in your other thread Jay, how much is the difference in insurance?

From those mods listed up top, that will be at least £500 worth, and then as Rob says the insurance will be higher anyway as it is modified anyway.

I'm 20, with 0 NCB, and have my 1.6 insured in my name for £900, with alloys, exhaust, brakes, suspension, all audio, and other small cosmetic changes all covered like for like.

if you really want to spend ur money on a 1.4 go for it. when you can afford a 1.6 pretty much all the bits you put on a 1.4 can fit a 1.6 anyway. thats what im doing to mine
