Just to warn people.
I mate of mine got a Cam Cover off EBay a Powder Coated one.
Fitted it all was good.
Now a few months on, the Powder coating has chipped off the underside of the Cam Cover (as its powder coated on both side) down to heat etc.
This has resulted in killing his engine (well top end)
I have to say i would never of expected this to of happened, as powder coating is supose to be strong aswell as being able to take some heat.
So thats one 400+bhp C20LET engine killed
Gutted

I cant understand why the coater would coat the underside of the cover. And also why your mate would fit it, knowing that its coated on the inside.

Yes it is Muppet
Killed his engine, good news for me as i get to sell him loads of bits
Because of a badly powdercoated rocker its killed one of the most powerful corsas and C20LET around

Because he assumed that a part which he was sold to fit an engine, would be fit to go on it.

But if you had the knowledge to build a 400bhp LET then you would be suspicious of the cover?

No, I would assume it was fit for purpose, as I would with every other part in the engine which was sold as such.

Probably because they have had it done properly and only coated the outside.

I would assume that poweder coating is tough enough for the inside of a cam cover. It's a fucking hard finish which needs acid to strip it off. It's used on tools and machinery e.t.c.

I wouldn't have thought the rocker cover gets that hot to be honest. You can get the engine up to temperature and you can still touch it...

Yes it would withstand the temperature, its most likely because it wasnt applied properly.

The temperature on the inside of the cover wouldn't be much more than the outside, you'd not expect it to flake off the outside.

One of my mates has killed 3 XE's in his corsa due to lack of oil pressure. Turns out he was using a rocker cover that had been sandblasted that was knackering the oil pumps!!!
