Also note if you are interested and read further that the Cell has instructions that GPU's normally have.

This is a distibuted prject for doing protein folding calculations which are usefull in looking for cures for cancer, alzheimer's, etc, etc.
The amount of computing power the ps3's are giving is supercomputer levels.
Nothing to do with xbox live.
While reading I also came across the fact the cell has at least some of the functions a normal gpu has, which makes the argument about the 360 having a more powerfull gpu null and void imo.

Not exactly. The cell is unlikely to be able to do much to help the GPU to be honest. The Cell probabaly can do some things to help, like maybe helping to process vertex shader data or assisting in geometry work, but ANY cpu can do that.
Without proof of these functions the point is null and void, because it doesnt mean anything.

your theory about the 360 have non superior GPU is wrong

i think john doesnt seem to grasp that no matter how many calculations per second the ps3 can make, whilst it has 1/3 rd of the memory bandwidth and 1/2 of gpu dedicated memory its never going to be any better

Steve I was waiting for the memory bandwidth comment.
If the cell is doing some of the processing that the gpu would normally do it doesn't need to transfer loads between the cpu and gpu.
I'm not saying the gpu isn't better on the 360, just came across that and thought it was quite interesting.

What are you talking about you clown, it HAS some of the functions that are normally left to gpu's, not the same as ANY cpu.
The proof is in the tech specs of the cell tbh.

Then post a link to these specs? As i said before, saying that it has some GPU functions means nothing, as an cpu can do some gpu related things, have have been doing so for years.
Either, the Cell is helping the GPU out with software things (as any cpu can do) or it must have some level of rending pipeline in the CPU, which i find hard to believe without proof thats true.

i had a go on my bro's PS3 yesterday and had a look at this Folding @ Home thing. Seemed quite interesting. I noticed there was only 1 person in Africa who had a PS3 (if indeed those dots are people connected at that time).
I wasn't too impressed with Gran Turismo, i realise it's just a demo but just didn't look that good imo. Perhaps it was the shit car and shit track. Played Fall of Man which imo is crap Was impressed with Fight Night (looks marginally better than the 360 version) and Formula 1 was pretty cool too.
Lovely looking piece of kit too and I like the way you can turn on the console
Think my brother is moving in with me in the next week so he'll be bringing that round... happy days.

I also liked the menus on the PS3. Very sleek and stylish and easy to navigate. I like the way different pictures come up when you select a demo or a game you have in the drive. Plus the whole thing booted up very quickly (though it did lock up once whilst powering on )
Haven't seen a Blu Ray film on it yet though, think Casino Royale is on it's way.

wtf is the 6-axis? I'm clearly not as geeky as you so you'll have to explain it.

One the PS3? i didn't notice to be honest. Don't think the games I was playing made use of that function.
