Wii doesn't play DVD's. You also won't get hold of one from a store for less than £300 as they get in limited stock. You will get one off eBay for around £200 though.

360 if you aren't hardcore as it's financially the best option.

Wii - wont play dvds, and no use playing Fifa etc on one
360 - reasonable price for a good machine, wide range of games. Can get a HD DVD add on drive if you wish.
PS3 - Heavy price tag but get a Blu-Ray player included in the machine. Not so many games out at the moment, majority are copies of ones designed for the 360.
So if you want bang per buck, then go for the 360, if you want to live lavish and are bothered about having a High Definition DVD drive, then consider the PS3

The Wii remote isnt really built for it is it, plus the GFX and online capabilities are far superior on the 360/PS3

Hard drive (so you can save your games & download content on live)
Ethernet Cable (to connect to internet)
Wireless Controller (1000000% better than wired)
Free month live subscription
HD cable (view games in high definition via component)
Chrome dvd faceplate
Headset so you can talk online to other players

Im really in two minds now, Xbox 360 premium or PS3! Price wise the Xbox smacks it, but how soon will it be before the PS3 drops in price? Im assuming it will be a while.
Also will a normal dvd deffo work on a ps3 cos ive just been told by a collegue that only blu-ray discs will work

There is a huge difference between a gamecube pad and a PS3/360 pad though isnt there
Im not putting down the Wii, i want one. Was going to get one for my bday but chose money instead because of holidays etc. I will get one when they are easy to get hold of though.

1st off, do you have a HDTV? Will you be getting one?
If no to BOTH those questions, then the 360 is for you. The reason the PS3 is so expensive is because you are getting the Bue-ray player. If you were to get the premium 360 and the HD DVD player youll end up with similar prices.
AFAIK the BluRay player plays normal dvds, and soon they are updating the firmware to upscale regular DVDs to HD resolutions.

Well it really is down to you, 360 is already developed and has some amazing games coming out, and you have the choice or purchasing a HD DVD player.
Or you can have the PS3 which has less games, but will obviously release more over time. The PS3 is rumoured not to have all its 'special' titles anymore, GTA5/MGS etc.

Yes, but people say the interface isnt as easy to use and is long winded. Obviously there will be more players on the xbox interface, due to it being out longer.
Its also worth noting you have to pay £40 a year for the xbox subscription, the PS3s is free, but i suppose you get what you pay for.
