The locks on our '97 CDX arent as they're suppose dto be.

In order to lock the doors you have to turn the key 90 degrees to the left - to the normal deadlock position. You then cant turn the key any further to deadlock and arm the alarm.

Its almost as if the mechanism is mis-aligned and the key hits a stop before you can reach the dead-lock position.

ANy ideas?

Common fault.

The cam in the door lock wears out. It's not much for the part, but the job is fiddly. Do a search, someine did a good article on it.

your looking at about £50 for vauxhall to knock one up for you. The springs inside the barrel break and jam it up. See this one I stripped and repaired.

So is it the spring or the cam ?

And yes, the CDX has deadlocks. You have to deadlock to arm the alram too - neither of which I can do at the moment.

Thinking about it you may well have broken the deadlock ring(big grey bit at top) and this is preventing the lock from turning. Quite a common problem also.

Get it apart lad, just take some notes while doing it cos its a right puzzle putting one back together!

How do you deadlock the car?

Just looked on Parkers, by GLS should have deadlocks, but don't know how to activate them?

The owners manual says to lock it, pulling the key out in the horizontal position? Is that the deadlock? Mine does this drivers side, not passenger?!

In the drivers door, if you turn the key 45 degrees the door should lock. Then go to 90 degrees and you will hear the deadlocks activates. It should be in 2 stages.

Yup - but you can leave the door lock horizontal. Unlike the passenger side which doesn't really go 45 degrees.

When the car is locked it should be horizontal.

Hmmm, I've got my angles mixed up

The passenger side does the 45 degree thing, like normal.

The drivers side, locks, making a similar noise to the passenger side, but you can leave the key in the horizontal position, which the owners manual says to do, Page 31.

The drivers side locks, can be either horizontal, or return the key to vertical and remove I'll leave it horizontal from now on.

EDIT: I guess one way to see if it works, is lock myself in with the window open, and see if I can lift the door pins.

Yeah that part is fucked then. Horizontal should be locked, vertical unlocked. You should'nt be able to move it vertical with the car still locked.

Ok, thanks for your help. Might pop in Vauxhall, they normally have a breakdown image of all the parts.

Hopefully it won't cost a lot to fix.

EDIT: Sorry I stole your thread Phil!
