. . .especially if they look like this
This is my mates 888 Stealth thing, or what ever they are called. He is 19 lol but it is in his mums name, her insurance etc. His mum has previously had a 2.0 Turbo 5 door (they didn't like the fuel economy on it because my mate drove it to college in London), then they got a Focus diesel, and now this.
Anyway, this Astra is lovely. Got the optional extra Recaro bucket seats. Few things wrong with it though, the paint on both rear callipers has 'burnt' off and one of the front wheel hub bits infront of the disc is rusty.
Anyway, I'm baffling on, just thought it looked like a lovely motor.
Until he started it up and it sounded like a tractor (I did know it was a diesel )

He said there were 200 or something. 4 colours, 50 in each colour.
I'm pretty sure it said Stealth on the rear, the opposite side to the '888'.

His could be an ultra special then - it does have Recaro bucket seats with black leather and royal/light blue suede. I wasn't sure if that was standard?

my mates astra sri diesel with the 150bhp engine goes bloody well for a diesel so i can imagine with the extra 50bhp that would be very quick.
how is the power delivery on those with the sport mode on? is it just one big slab of power at 2k revs or is it smooth and progessive like the 150bhp ecu?

He says he can't turn the Sport button on yet, as it's a new car and needs the engine bedding in

This is strange, because it doesn't have the carbon v-grill or back trim:

And this is weird because apparently, only 100 were made

Fuck knows - he is a good driver, but also drives like a nutter. Just because it hasn't been run in yet, doesn't mean to say he hasn't been braking hard

only 100 Astra 888 diesels where produced by Thurlby motors (a dealership) they are standard 1.9's that have uprated parts on. due to a dealer making the special edition they do have to be insured as a modified car, IE sports hatch with extras on.
extras include:
Twin re-map to 160bhp or 200bhp / 330lb ft torque activated via Sport button.
Triple 8 specially tuned and uprated -30mm springs and shock absorbers.
Triple 8 four pot callipers, 335mm grooved discs, standard rear discs and callipers.
18x8 inch BTCC wheels designed by Triple 8, 235/40 Toyo Proxes tyres.
SRi exterior styling pack, privacy glass.
SRi heated leather seats, CD player, electric windows, mirrors, air con
Out of the 100 cars made/sold the last 4 made were special Stealth edtions which had tinted windows, carbon detailing, and recaro seats.

Sounds like his is a special Thurbly one, and a Stealth at that.
How many 'standard' 888's were made then? Or are the Thurbly ones the only ones?

thurbly ones are the only Mk5 (astra H)ones.
vauxhall only made 100 official 888 astra Mk4's (astra G).

I did one weeks work experience at a thurbly delership. There's one in Boston, Louth, and Alford. Theres always something sexy in the showroom.
Has anyone seen the van they are doing at the moment with a tuned derv engine in it?
