Did my alternator bracket today, and found out that i've been driving around with 24 teeth missing off my timing belt.

Timing belt snap would have been nasty.

Am I right in thinking the timing belt is the cam belt?

Yes it is, my alternator belt was worn into a perfect V aswell, dodgy service garage my mate went to, only had it back in November.

they always said them 8v's were bomb proof. May aswell just use rubber bands instead of cambelts from now eh.

I can't understand it either, my tutors at college said my engine shouldn't even be running anymore, the college have kept it to show students so i'll try and get pictures.

I suppose if the belt has one tooth missing in every 3, in a neat pattern, it's just about possible, but even then, VERY lucky.
