Right, as some of you know myself and Jr went on a Kent run with Pistonheads and it was a great experience and really opended my eyes up to why iconic cars get their reputations.
Now after getting blown away by a mildly tuned Clio 172 I am in two minds to sell up and get something along them lines for a bit of fun.
I was quite close to getting a 182 but ducked out at the last minute and bought the Astra. I do love the Astra and how it looks and it is fairly nice to drive. However it just didnt seem to compare to some of the cars i saw on sunday in terms of performance.
My idea is to basically buy a cheaper 172/182 and clear the loan on the Astra so i can spend more time on my career/exams but....I keep thinking I wont find a clean example like the one I have again.
I am more of a Drag strip person than a country lane terrorist so am still unsure whether to go french or not...the thing is the fun factor thats winning me over. Also the fact a couple of people off here have shown interest in the Astra makes me think of selling up while I can.
What do you reckon? The reason I am posting here is the fact that we have a wide range of memeber who own a lot of different metal so I may (if I am lucky) get a more rounded opinion.
heres a thread I have on Cliosport:

I like the Astra GSi and yours with the dark wheels looks I would only consider a 172 if it was a Cup, I'd always be thinking what could have been if I had the regular 172!
So, if its a Cup, go for it!

If you're 100% thinking of doing it to clear debt and spend more time on exams for your career, it's a no brainer really, if not, I'd stick with the Astra, especially if you're not really fussed with country road thrashing.

When I had my 172, I had it for 6 years and never ever let me down engine wise, sure the leather gear gaiter fell off, the door trim fell off, the clio and sport badge fell off, the boot catch broke twice, the rear screen washer jet fell off twice, the electric window pod came off, the headlight washer came off, the bonnet release broke, the rear wheel bearings failed twice, the back box on the exhaust rusted and fell off 3 times, the trim in the back kept coming off, so yes mate, get a clio!!! Saying that the majority of this happened under warranty, but i reckon the astra's build quality would be miles better than a renault

Seriously Fad, everyone and their dog has Clio's, ok they handle better than the Astra but thats as far as they go with regards to being a better car.
They don't look as good
They aren't as exclusive
They aren't as easy to tune
They are French
Your car is sexy
Clio handles better, so what? How often are you likely to be trashing along country lanes flat out? TBH its dangerous, ok if you planning on tracking the car but then your going to have to replace the clutch and gearbox in the Clio every 2,000 miles where as you would only have to replace the turbo on the Astra
Seriously, don't do it.

see personally i see it the other way, as much as i like fads astra
he doesnt drive it, so when he does, he wants something thats mega fun
clio is more fun than the astra, if he needed an everyday car, it would be the other way round

MX5 is RWD and they handle superb and so does the Clio, but thats never gonna happen again is it? Racing down backrounds = danger.
Please don't sell the Astra for a Clio, only do it if it helps you in some way that will mean you can benefit from it. Which I don't think it will.
