We've just managed to get our tropical tank up and running with 10 neon tetras, 5 lemon tetras and a random guppy that the guy at the pet shop caught by accident 
Just wondering who else has a tropical or marine tank set up? And what they have in it fish wise 
Pics would be awesome also

100 litre tank with 5 silver sharks, 6 tiger barbs, 1 guppy and 1 plec.
Used to have a crayfish, fighter fish and lots more guppies but they died

5 tanks.
one with discus, corys and tetra.
one with two kribs and about 40 krib babies.
one with a baby birchir and baby arrowana
one with a big bircher (did have red tail cat and marble birchir but seem to have got some internal parasite in fighting to get rid of)
and one with one red plec and one spotted plecs and some zebra tetra beasties, havent gotten around to adding anything else.

now i had sliver sharks but these all die just leaveing me with the plec and 1 odd colour guppy! wot tip do u have sir?

Check your water stats, might have an ammonia spike

i have 8 tanks
living room one is 2 m long with quite a few discus and various tropicals
other living room one is 4 footer with adult malawi's
at my back door i have a pair of breeding discus and another tank with 7 small discus (quarantine before big tank)
up stairs i have more wee discus a malawi tank breeding angels and small kribs i am growing up

are breeding conditions perfect? if not then they wont love each other
my juwel powerhead broke, would cost £30 to replace, so instead i bought a fluval 4 internal filter for 27 that is more powerful and does a better job

breeding pair are red allenquers also have a adult female orange pigeon blood but lost the male so waiting for one of my young ones to grow up to pair with her

tbh, the amount of effort needed isnt that high, its made out to be hard work, now mines up and running, it requires very little maintance tbh

the water changes are hassle in themself. The amount of elements that can harm marine fish are huge so getting it right is important. The number of times Ive seen very expereinced fish keepers post up of fish forums about killing a $1000 fish due to one small thing being done wrong is laughable!!

well put it this way, i neglected the tank for 3 weeks as i was really busy, didnt do no checks, nothing, no water changes, and when i finally had time, i checked it, and all was spot on, ive never checked it and had a problem.
the tank is growing so fast, and all is going so well

you didnt have an ammonia spike after 3 weeks of no water changes? You didnt have a drop in salt levels? You didnt have a build up of NO3?
If not then you either have an understocked tank (no problem) or an over filtered tank (no problem) but both of these are normally rare in your average set-up.

salt is never a problem anyway, so long as its right in 1st place and with ure water changes it wont change, as long as u top up to same level with ro water with evap

salt levels will change over time...so if you measure salinity just after your water change and then after leaving it for 3 weeks you'll see a change!
Obviously though as you said you've got both an under stocked tank and over filtration so its not much of a problem. But to an average tank (both stocked and filtration) it would be more of a problem and it really isnt the sort of thing you can just leave for a few weeks as it will more than likely cause casulties in the tank.

salt levels takes ages to change craig, and then its only a bit. but i do agree you have to keep a constant eye on marine and do hardly anything for tropical
