Dog box is different from a dogleg box I think.

It's something to do with the engagement of the gears rather than the shift pattern.

It's to do with the synchromesh, or lack of, or something

that link refers to the cwp, not the actual box. the cwp is the final drive, 'crown wheel and pinion'

dog box's (used on motorbikes) don't have a synchromesh (i think), thus the casing can be smaller and it's easier to change ratios etc Though you get a lot of transmission noise, crunchy gears etc

think thats right

Read that link, the main difference is that the teeth are straight-cut for strength.

The CWP won't make it faster round a track necessarily, it will either make it faster top end, or accelerate quicker.

Shouldn't imagine it'd be stonger either TBH.

i thought drivers usually just match revs to get around the double-declutching?

steve - like robin said, it might be quicker, it might not be, depends on the track. just remember there is a fair amount more noise from the box which could be a bit of a bastard if it's going to be an everyday car.

A good vid of how to drive a dog box though - > HERE <

So this "4.36 CWP" is just a final drive and you'd not have to "Double Clutch" it?

A 4.36 FD would be stupid on a car which you actually use on the road TBH

once you've learned to match the revs then you can get away without the clutch, but it's meant to be a bit of an art to get the hang of it. Though you'll always have to double clutch to downshift (think thats right)
