This may be a silly question but what is this? is this where you rinse the sponge after every time you wash a part of the car to prevent the soapy water getting dirty?

been wondering what this is for a while so thought i'd ask

One bucket with soap in, another with just fresh water in. Rinse sponge in the water bucket, dip in the soap then wipe car. Saves putting dirt in the soap.

Another good tip is to not use a sponge, get yourself a microfibre mitt. Sponges make smears

£9.99 on a wash mitt is a bit expensive for how long they last! They hold and trap more dirt thank you think.

I use one but its starting to swirl my paint as much as using a sponge would

i have a meguiars micorfibre mitt, that i actually havent used yet tbh.

got it free from Megs

At the mo i use a Tesco's own wash mitt, costs about £4 but it is bloody good and is only just starting to fall apart after a year of having it and washing it in the machine after every time ive used it.

Seems a good idea. Only worth doing if your car is immaculate imo.

i have got a wash mit actually but just put sponge at the top to be easier, need to give these clay bars a go aswell, sounds like a lot of effort, is the finish worth it? do you do it every time you wash?

Clay Bar after you have washed it but only 2 or 3 times a year

Yes its worth it! Personally would only wash>clay bar>polish>wax maybe 2-3 times a year. Rest of the time just wash it. A quality wax will keep it looking at its best for a good few months at a time with only normal washing.

Off topic but did you buy some irmscher side skirts off me last year? Car looks familiar!

2 bucket method takes years... best way is to loosen all the dirt with a hose, then use a normal sponge, and keep a spare sponge for when that one starts to get scabby

i was my car in the usual way at least twice a week, no swirls or anything. just a nice coat of harley wax after every wash and it gets shinier and shinier every week

never use it,
no real point,

simple dont put your hand in to the bottom of the bucket,
as all the dirty sinks to the bottom of the bucket,

both a mit and sponge will leave marks on paint if theres dirt/grit on them...
but a mit should hold/pick up less

car washing using silly methods is overhyped forum rubbish. all that care and attention and then the car gets thrashed down a road covered in stones, grit, salt, water........

theres probably a good and bad way to wash a car but theres nothing wrong with a soapy bucket of warm water and a chamois IMO.
