I was considering buy one 04 or 05 plate.

I hear all the "V-TEC" banter but are they good cars?

I have 10 grand to spend on a car. Would you spend your money on something else?

I know a guy who had a 182 then went to a civic and didn't look back.

He said the Clio would out handle it anyday but the civic is just as quick but without the rattles etc.

Personal choice though! Civic is more a grown up car IMO.

funny how must the ctr's are driven by chavs yet the 182 isnt? more grown up? you have to rev the fuck out of it to make it even remotely go. theyre only as quick as a 106gti which is about 2 grands worth. theyre not grown up cars, theyre a boyracer and chavs car only. theyre a disgrace to the label type-r.

Well yeah i see what your saying. But just because young people drive them dosn't mean they are not grown up cars.

Small cars are generally targeted at young kids were as the civic was targeted at 25+ guys with a bit more cash.

Still havn't driven a Type R but sat in one and put the clio to shame in just about every department.Driven a 172 and the clutch was stupid the driving position was awfull and didn't actually feel quick. The only thing i'd say is it was the best handling car i've ever driven.

The Type R might not handle as well but i'd sacrifice a bit of steering feel and handling for what you get extra in the civic.

Oh and i raced a 172 in my GTI and it was dead even so the CTR might not be quicker than a GTI but i sure as hell know which car i'd want to own.

you dont get anything extra out of the civic though apart from a stupid noise. i have driven many of each including round a track and the 182 was by far the better driving experience for both the track and just to drive. chav image or no chav image, its nothing special and i dont think a car as special as the other type-r models are.

worth saying i dont hate them, i just dont think theyre even remotely as special as people make them out to be. if its sub standard and average your after, get a 5 door 307 or something.
