Insulation tape on the head. The garage has just phoned me and informed me what they have found.

yes it was exactly where the compression was fluctuating on cylinder 2

Stuck on the head next to Cylinder 2. This causing a gap as the head was lifted where it was.

in that order? was the tape protruding into the cylinder or just making a gap in the gasket? why would someone do something so stupid lol

then the Head
Don't think it was protruding into the cylinder just making a gap which has got worse over time. Would this explain the tapping noise then? Gonna ask previous owner have they had the head off at any time.

where was the tapping noise coming from? i wouldnt have thought that would cause a tapping noise.

would really need to be a lot of tape for it to cause compression problems surely!
cause once the head is torqued down it shouldve squashed it pretty tight into the gasket..
But still anyway... bunch of cowboys ehh

Iain.... ive had the head off to do the head gasket. i used copper grease to keep the gasket in place. the only thing i can think of is if a piece of tape off a wiring harness got jammed between, if its losing compression it sounds like it could be a slightly bent valve....that would also explain the tapping.

No worries mike He has haad a look at the valves and piston rings and all is well there. He did say though that as the head gasket has got more solid over time it would have pushed up a bit if that makes sense. Just seems funny that where the tape was is right next to the cylinder thats playing up. Cheaper bill i hope

The tapping comes from sort of the head area.

i imagine the head was put on the bench and picked the tape up there, then it was put onto the block without matey boy realising the cock up he'd just made

UPDATE -
Well garage just phoned me and when the company who is skimming the head for them has gone to do this they have found 2 bent valves in cylinder 2. This explaining the compression issue. More money
I go on fucking holiday next week and this is hitting my spend hard

Well they are going to check the others but as compression is fine in the other 3 cylinders i think they are just going to replace the 4 in cylinder 2. and carry on with what they where doing.
