i fitted a brand new oil pump off trechii on ebay to my xe corsa on saturday, started up and everything was fine, went on the nw meet last night, covered 130 miles, some at silly speeds still no noise, sat in illuminations for what felt like 3 weeks and no problems.
got in today and noticed oil light was flickering, just as a precaution i changed the oil to top notch 15-40,started up,oil light on now but engine quiet, set off to local parts shop thinkin it was the switch,no more than 1 mile tappety as hell!!,about face an go home, just on my street engine stalled and seized!!!
what action should i take(please note i am fuming but dont want any i'd throw it though his window or feed it him though his exit hole answers!)i dont know how to approach this,if the oil pump was faulty fron new surely it would have been noisy to start with,if it were something on my engine like a blocked pick up(power washed though by the way) why didn't it show while it were hot in traffic last night.
i'm not only down the price of an oil pumpŁ55,i'm also now gonna be down a sump set, labour, oil, manifold gasket and at worse an engine!!!
suggestions please

Is trechii a private seller or a trader? and did you fit the pump yourself?

well, being a trader, you might get somewhere with trading standards, but I doubt it, as I'm not sure an ebay 'trader' counts as an actual business.
and as you fitted it yourself, he could argue that it was an installation error, and it's not his fault.

i've thought about the installation bit but if it was an error why would it take so lond to fail,i had 30 secs at 130+(private road obviously) and it were quiet as a mouse!

small claims court....
they may ask for an indipendant assessment of wether it was a fitter error or mechanical parts error...
so you will need to find a garage, helpful enough to back you in court.

depends though, new eastern chinese 3p oil pump or 15 quid more for a proper one. feedback or not.
how many people leave feedback for car bits once they arrive? and not after they have been fitted though?

people generally leave feed back when recived the item, not after fitting..
so the same could of happened to someone else..
or you could of just had a dodgy one

you drove it with the warnign ligh ton.... thats not his fault you cant say/the pump it to blame for that.
Anything can fail, regardless of cost.

there was no reason for the warning light to be on as it was quiet and had run perfect the night before, also the pump was new.
nothing constructive,no help!

there was no reason for the light to be on OTHER THAN WARNING THAT YOU HAD ZERO OIL PRESSURE

If there was no reason for the oil light to be on, your engine would be ok. It came on for a reason, you ignored it, so it's your fault, you've got no chance of getting any money from the bloke now IMO.
Even something brand new can fail.

i know the light was on for a reason but the signs of no oil pressure were'nt there as i've said, thats why i thought the switch was faulty.surely an oil pump cant fail in a day

obviously it can
I know its a shit situation, but these things happen.
How can you prove the part was faulty?
How can he prove it was your workmanship?
Seriously - you want to kick up a fuss about a 55quid ebay oil pump that failed
There is no way he is liable for your engine after you openly admitting to driving it regardless of the oil warning light.

Aye, even brand new parts can have a fault.
I agree with what the others said tho, the oil pressure light is pretty much the light of death.
As if you see that come on, your oil pressure is below about 5 psi...
