Thought I'd start a thread for this as people seem to be interested in the Mark IV Golfs and I'm bored at work!

As some of you know I am getting rid of the corsa, will be sad to see it go as it is a lot of fun and alot of time and money has gone into it. But hopefully im moving on to better things.

always wanted a Mark IV Anniversary golf but was going to wait until next year until funds allowed. However while looking on his salvage sites loking for something to buy and repair dad came across exactly what i was after!

2002 Anniversary edition golf (no. 0031/1800) (39,500 miles) Which had been in a flood, and possibly had a dead engine, and was missing the front splitter and the 18" BBS wheels. But for £4.5k even replacing the engine and buying the missing parts it should still cost cheaper than buying one that needs no work. And the best part is its not recorded as a write off

So off dad went to pick it up from doncaster. these are pics when we first got it back to his yard.

There it sat until the following morning, when dad began work to see if he could get it to fire up.

He first noticed it was seized up, but didnt let that sway him, and by rocking it in gear he managed to free it up. So we thought we could be lucky! But after putting oil in it and it swiftly coming back out we knew we would have a problem. But we thought it could just be a cracked sump as they can be pretty common due to the sump sitting low. We had it turning over by the key and going to fire up but due to not having enough oil to hand we thought we'd wait until we had some.

We waited until the weekend, and thought we'd check underneath to make sure the oil leak wasn't anything more serious. and much to our dismay it was! There was a hole in the block where the conrod had made a bid for freedom probably due to being hydro locked and causing pressure on the pistons.

so i took a couple more pics in the daylight..

Then the hunt began for an engine. But i didnt want any old 1.8t lump. There are quite a few different engine codes available, which also came with different BHP outputs. In the golfs they were either 150BHP or 180BHP. The anni's come with a 180BHP AUQ engine so i thought that would be my best bet as i would be keeping it original and keeping the power it should have. so after a bit of research into which other VAG cars the AUQ came in i found one from a Leon cupra that had been in a rear end accident. So off we went to huddersfield in Dads van and we brought back...

Complete engine with turbo etc
6 Speed box
Leon subframe
Driveshafts
Hubs
And full engine and car loom

As I only need the engine everything else i have come back with will either be for sale to recoup costs or will be kept as spares as some bits can be hard to come by i.e the gearbox. And i can split bits from the engine with hole in the block to make some money back also.

Other Things that i need to get for it at the moment will be

18" BBS RC wheels
Anniversary front splitter
The correct anniversary headlights
A new anniversary plaque as the current one has faded.

Hopefully it is going into the garage this week to get the engines swapped over

Worst mirror cap only has one chrome one

Assuming thats VW prices

Fad found me the following website

www.oemparts.co.uk

They have the splitter for £215 but no wheels or headlights.

Will probably wait for the wheels to come up on ebay etc as thats a lot for each one! And I'm sure ive found the headlights somewhere cheaper than that.

Thanks for the part numbers Is that with your discount?

Tom - I'm going to get the interior valeted as its a bit pongy in there! And will hopefully get it undersealed at somepoint also especially if it all goes to plan and its out by winter

Why would you have an Anni but take the wheels and headlights off? Assuming the splitter came of in the flood?

Something smells a bit pongier than the interior?

Good luck though mate, lovely car

The bits were robbed off it at the salvage yard (

Fro speak to Paul off here he got a set of Anni wheels for 1k all in as a battered set with part worn tyres will need a refurb which wil actually cost loads as the wheels need to be taken apart by a specialist and all the bolts replaced.

Looking forwards to seeing this progress.

What happend to the Wombat?
