16v is quicker, the 8v is not far behind tho.

The 16v has more potential too.

Still a good engine, the 8v.

personal preference would be the 8v.... engines are generally alot stronger. and they do have potential, just depends how much you wanna spend on the engine.

Gsi engine aint a 8v, so its cams wont fit.

On a standard engine, you will have to stick to mild, fast road cams.
As anything more will give a lumpy idle and bad running.

He probably means a nova gsi/gte.
There 8v engines.

Not worth fitting a gsi/gte cam into a 1400 sri tbh, you will hardly see any gain.

Look at the kent nvo series.

Remaps not really worth it.
A full mappable management system is, but thats expensive.

For a 1.4 8v it's not bad at all.

I've raced a few 1.4's of various other cars, Fiesta's etc and can't remember a time I've lost. Also raced my mate in his 2.0 TD Skoda, and was actually catching him up (was behind him to start with) and would have overtaken had there not been a car coming the other way! And on Saturday night did a race from about 60mph with my mates E30 M3 (2.3l) and was neck and neck until about 100

Shocking little motors

The 8v tend to produce more torque and less bhp, hardy anything in it when there both standard, 16v seem to have valve stem issues around 70k and when I did quotes for insurance the 16v was quite alot more to insure and also to buy to begin with, 8v seems a pretty bullet proof engine which is cheap and easy to work on, M reg like yours im guessing it could do with a service, cam belt and head gasket changed and then its got many problem free miles ahead.
