Just made it 5 wins out of 5 in their qualifying.

If they win on Tuesday against Portugal they've pretty much got through their group already.

Agbonlahor and Milner scored.

Still not conceded either

Agbonlahor will be a massive player in the premiership imo, appears to have absolutely everything!

Shocker, for an extra £3 million you could have had Darren Bent

I actually dont rate him. Seems to be more about speed rather than having a great deal of talent, and at the end of the day - if this is the case - when you take the step up to the next level where defenders are much better he will get shown up.

Certainly isnt worth the £15m mentioned though!!

Glad to see Milner scored again, he's been one of the only bright sparks at Newcastle over the last couple of years.

The next level? He's playing in the best league in the world at the minute there is no next level.

No, I dont mean the next level as in his domestic league. But he is yet to play against the best defenders in Europe on a regular basis (playing for Villa) and he hasnt played at an INternational level against the best defenders.

So instead of facing the likes of Carvalho, Terry, Carragher in the Premiership he'd just be doing the same but in the Champions League?

Winner against Chelsea and he also cleared off the line last week in the derby before going up the park and scoring the winner. Can't recall any of the other times he's faced the big teams tbh.

Derby's a big game though i included that as it was only last week, both his goals were headers as well not bad for a glorified sprinter

Anyway....my point still stands that he doesnt really come up against the top defenders in the world too often to show he is anything more than pace. And until he does - and shows either way he can handle it or not - I dont (or cant!) rate him.

Same goes for the vast majority of the U21's and young players who get branded the next big thing. They often look a class above the level they are playing with (normally reserves, Championship, poor Prem team) but look out of their depth when they make the step up and are playing against better players more often.

The Chelsea one was a big lucky IIRC, wasnt it more of a hard cross that glanced his head and just went in? Brum one wasnt bad IIRC though.

I don't get where your getting this playing against harder defences on a more regular basis from, if you play for Villa or Liverpool you're playing against the same defences week in week out.

The Champions League isn't a step up it's a sideways step if anything, the fact the English teams have been the best in the Champions League recently proves that.

So your telling me Villa - who havent got into Europe for ages - is a sideways step to the CL?!

He ONLY plays against good defenders when he plays against the top 4 (the odd exception maybe). He doesnt play that extra load of games in Europe against better teams and players, and he doesnt play at Intl. level against better teams and defenders.

I dont actually know his scoring record against the top 4, but IMO until he plays against more top sides and defenders and shows he isnt just pace (which when I watch him he mainly looks like) then he isnt worth the £15m being talked about and I cant really rate him.

Playing against Man United, Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool then going into the Champions League is a sideways, if not downward, step yes
