Any thoughts on how many millions it would cost to build a decent motorsport venue?

Something thats cabable of cars, bikes, rallycross etc.

Sort of Knockhill size?

A small oval circuit capable of the above would be cheaper than a proper circuit like Knockhill.

I haven't got a clue cost wise though really.

(Well, a rough idea anyway)

Depends what you were doing exactly.

A small oval, like a derby ring wouldn't be *THAT* expensive in concrete. Compare that to a tarmaced place with stands for seating and pit areas would be completely different.

no thanks

Just interested...

I'd liek to see another track in Scotland... just want an idea on how much it'd likely cost to do so.

Bigger than knockhill, with pit garages, grandstand etc,

£15M - £50M at a guess.

Rockingham was a newly constructed circuit and cost £55M.

There were plans to build this circuit a few years ago right next to where I live

http://www.williemiller.co.uk/forrestburn-international-circuit.htm

Never came to anything There is some sort of race track there atm.

There seems to have been a debate about it in the House of Commons at some stage

The big big problem would be finding suitable land, with the required transport links, that has planning permission for it. As anything that could have a track built on it would more than certainly have permission for houses, which means it would cost a fortune for land.

After that its matter of building the track and the buildings needed. Probably around £5m for a semi-decent place. £10m+ for a really good place. And most of that money probably wouldnt be construction, it would be land and planning.

Proper thing is millions and I would imagine it would need to be capable of hosting some pretty top notch events to be viable.

Yup, I think the only way for it to make money would be for it to have the ability to host some decent sized events, but to do that it would cost more money to set up.

I think the point at which it becomes viable in terms of income is when the interest payments on borrowing £50m make it prohibitive to finance.

You'd need a few million yourself to borrow £50m too

Yeah but your talking huge stands and crap for those too. Thats a whole different kettle of fish to even a decent track.
