I had one and loved it!

Only thing was, the fuel pump failed and left me stranded after 20k. I also managed to sheer some bolt that connected my gear level on the motorway on the way home from Wales, stuck in 4th gear. Managed to drive about 60miles only using fourth gear

The rest of the time tho it was an excellent car and I preferred it massively to my corsa I'd had previously (altho that was a bog standard 'merit').

Check for
Power steering pumps going
Rear beams being worn
Gearbox being clunky, not engaging gears properly
Airbag lights coming on intermittently

Had one and got rid. Nice cars to drive but are very flimsy and tempromental at times.

Gearbox - check for crunching, rear beam needs to be properly looked at, jack it up if you can and see if there is any play in the rear wheels. Listen out for any knocking aswell when you drive it, could be a number of things in my expierence.

Think it all depends on how its been treated! I had a '52 plate Vtr with 17k and gave it absolute death for 12 months. never failed and i loved driving it. Good quick(ish) cars for the money, altho clio 172's are dirt cheap also and better cars

Pretty quick mates got one with VTS gearbox, lightend n balence fly wheel, 4 branch, full S/S System straight through, quick shift, goes pretty well.

If you lower it make sure you move the powering steering pump.. as it wears away and leaves u with no power steering..

Few of me mates have got VTRs, one loves to eat gear boxes on his 4th box i think it is.
But he does abuse it slightlty :L

I know a lad with a 51 reg VTR. Just had new gear box (decided to make a hole in its self and bit falls out of bottom), coil pack, and idle control thingy all done within 2 day of getting the gear box done - cost him a bomb

Besides that, it only constantly fries its rocker gaskest cover thing wingy.

Other than that, i had a go in it - all has been done is decked 80mm and it is fun. power is instant at low revs which you dont get in the corsa sport.

Dont think they are that quick tho, they give you a false sense of speed

THe fact is, most of them don't have problems. It's not the cars fault they're owned by nobhead 18 yr olds who fuck the gearbox up because they drive like fuckwits.

Like I said...ace cars and felt like a massive step up from my corsa.

You'd buy a car based on what the dials go up to?

Mk1 or mk2 won't go anywhere near the figure anyway Daft.
