Me and the girlfriend are looking to go to Egypt next year, and ideally we want to stop at the Baron Resort hotel or the Baron Palms, is there any difference between these two? Obviously they're both owned by the same people, and they're next to each other, but wondered if there was a difference...

Feel free to give any other info on Sharm El-Sheikh in general aswell

Me & Colin went to Sharm El Sheikh and stayed at the Baron Palms - It was brill...the staff do everything for you and the selection of food/restaurants were amazing.

The Baron Palms is newer than the Baron Resort, I can't really comment on the Baron Resort but I would highly recommend the Baron Palms.

Only just checked the replies on this!

Got messed about yesterday... booked 2 weeks half board in the Baron Resort for £1154... or at least we thought we had... my girlfriend paid £100 deposit over the phone, to then be told that the remaining balance to pay was £1454 . After some strong words on the phone we're now waiting for them to listen to the recorded phone call to see what price the girl told us... hopefully we should get it for £1154 like she said... bargain!

I've no idea TBH! It was my gf's mom that made the call, as she's good at haggling the price down! Didn't think to ask who it was booked with

Thinking more of a terrorism/kidnap problem rather than muggings/street crime etc..

Is there really any significant threat of kidnapping or been blown up whilst there on holiday? If that's going to be your sort of attitude when considering a destination you might as well stay at home.

It's booked

Following on from my previous post, they listened to the recorded phone call to find that the woman DID tell us £1154, and not £1554, hence, we got it for £1154. a whole £400 cheaper due to their (Thomas Cook) mistake!

To the people who've been, how much spending money did you take? We're there for 2 weeks half board, so meals should be included...

Everything..Breakfast, which is a huge choice, a wee lunch time which can be out on the pool bar, or in the resturant, again anything available and at night the meals are themed, also very nice..

Yes there is. Up until a year ago I worked on this sort of thing for a living.

Personally I would still go, but people still need to know the dangers and make a decision themselves.

There is a high threat from terrorism in Egypt. Attacks could be indiscriminate, including in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers.

Since October 2004 there have been three separate bomb attacks in the Sinai Peninsula. These attacks killed and injured a number of British nationals. The most recent incident was on 24 April 2006 when explosions at three separate locations in the resort town of Dahab killed 23 people, and injured more than 60 including 3 British nationals. See the Terrorism Section of this advice for more details.

There is a high threat from terrorism in Egypt. Security is tight throughout Egypt, especially in resort areas, although the risk of indiscriminate attacks in places frequented by expatriates and foreign travellers, remains. Egyptian security forces continue to carry out counter-terrorist operations in some areas of Sinai. Security authorities may insist on escorting you in some areas.

On 26 April 2006, there were two suicide bomb attacks at the Multinational Force and Observers base in north Sinai. There were no fatalities.

On 24 April 2006, there were explosions at three separate locations in the resort town of Dahab in the Sinai Peninsular, in which 23 people were killed and more than 60 injured, including three British nationals.

In August 2005, two police vehicles and one Multinational Force and Observers’ vehicle were damaged when three roadside bombs exploded in Northern Sinai. Two policemen were killed and seven others injured.

On 23 July 2005, three bombs exploded in Sharm al-Sheikh in the Sinai Peninsula. 63 people, including 11 British nationals, were killed. 124 others were injured in these attacks.

On 30 April 2005, terrorists carried out two suicide bomb attacks in Cairo. Seven civilians, including four foreign nationals, were injured. On 7 April 2005, there was a suicide bomb attack in central Cairo near the Khan El Khalili bazaar, a location frequented by tourists. Three tourists were killed and 19 injured.

On 7 October 2004, three terrorist attacks in resorts and hotels in Taba and near Nuweiba in the Sinai Peninsula killed 34 (including tourists) and injured 159. Prior to these attacks the last terrorist attacks in Egypt were in 1997 in Luxor.

You should be aware that some of these attacks have taken place over local holiday weekends. Egyptian security forces tend to step up their presence at these times.

I want to go there next year but I dont think my girlfriend can afford it!

Been advised that if you do there not to go out of the resort as can be a bit dodgy but the hotels seem to have everything you could want and right on the beach so no need to venture off anywhere
