On Friday night some 14 year old (who I don't know) came down our street and vandalized each car on the road, mine included.

He broke part of the fixing for the wing mirror so it was pretty loose but not detached.

On the Saturday night, he came back - and finished it off however this time some guy down the road was keeping an eye out and he caught him - took him home and called the police.

The police can't do anything atm because this kid has been left home alone with his parents on holiday.

He basically had a hard time ripping off my mirror and has damaged alot of the door in his efforts to pull it off, and then once it detatched he slammed it against my door making a dent and lots of scuffing etc.

I took the car to a SEAT bodyshop for a quote, which stands at: £667.94

I know I could fix this cheaper, but thats an official dealer quote for the sake of having one.

Now will I get any money off of this kid to fix my car? He's damaged at least 12 cars on his way home (rumor has it he'd been drinking in the pub and got booted out... for being 14 n' all) and if any of the other cars have half the damage costs mine has, there is no way this kid can afford it, probably not even his parents.

If it goes to court etc, who will end up paying?

I don't want to inform my own insurance yet, as I can't risk NCB over this - but if it comes to it, how will things work since i'm at no fault at all.

Any ideas?

Fucing hell thats shit

What a Twat.

I really can't see the kid or his parents paying any money. I'm not sure what happens in this sort of case but I'd Imagine you have to sort the damage out yourself.

All the police will do is give him a warning.

Get some legal advice. then write them a letter when you know the parents are home, saying your solicitor will be in contact etc etc

See if you can call their bluff?

How do I go about this? What exactly counts a proof?

I guess I need to speak to the police a little more about if this kid is 100% guilty of doing it, as I suppose the only proof is eye witnesses at the moment

Rip his ear off and then slam it in his face.
His parent's will be scumbags and you won't get fuck all. I doubt much will happen to the kid with him being 14.

As for proof, won't his finger prints be all over the 12 cars he vandalised?

Last time I had a car vandalised and I thought i knew who it was, the police wouldn't spend the resources to check for fingerprints since they don't prove anything other than the car was touched by them

WTF are the parents doing leaving a 14yr old home alone chin them when they return tell them your going to seek damages & hold them responsible as their son was under 16 & left by them to do as he pleases to other peoples property.

If you inform your insurance you'll have a claim on your record.

Aight ok cheers Col,

I'm not sure of the details regarding his parents, as i've yet to speak to the coppers - but another 'victim' has spoken to the plod and thats the story they got.

I'll make sure I get details when they come round, apparently tomorrow.

What a nightmare!

14 or not id beat him within an inch of his life the little twat.

A similar thing happened to my mate, someone smashed his windscreen for nothing, he came outside and a local lad said i saw the kid do it ill take you to his house hammer = broken ribs.

Chances are your gna end up having to pay for the repairs yourself if you dont want to waste your NCB (i wouldnt either), the 14yr old wont have the money for repairs and with parents like that are they really gna hand over any cash??

If you have no proof, or the child don't admit he did your car i don't think you have a leg to stand on, as if it went to small claims it would just be classed as a circumstance that your car was damaged too.

doing a different car though, not his car it could just be classed as circumstantially or the judge could say well you saw the kid do damage to another car so you did it to your own in hope of comp

Ive heard kids can go missing fairly easily when the parents are on holiday...

I dont think you'd get any money back tbh, and doubt anything will happen to the kid either being only 14.

IF you've had weather like we've had here then they won't be fingerprinting anything.

Suppose that's a slap on the wrists and caution for the hoodrat then

No chance of getting anything from the kid or the parents if he wasnt caught doing your car.

Might aswell give him a good hiding so he wont do it agen though.

Coppers have just been round..

They've taken witness accounts and three lads are gonna get taken for questioning - all 15years old.

He was left at home with an older brother, so not technically alone.

Unless the parents agree to an out of court settlement, I probably won't see a penny - and I cant afford £700 so bye bye NCB I guess :<

Don't do anything until the parents return.

When they do, go there with the quote and tell them its booked in the following week and that you plan to pay up front and you'll be expecting the cheque with that in mind.

If they don't pay then hire a saloon car in 6 months and kidnap him.

Not all parents of tosser kids are bad. Although no damage was done to my car, I was driving along minding my own when some little shit pulled something from his coat and knocked my mirror off as I was going past, I flicked it around and he greb on my screen as I pulled up. I beat 7 shades of shit out of him and he was able to tell his Dad where I lived due to the fact my Nova was well known (about 7 years ago at a guess?)

His Dad came around kicking off until I told him the story, later he gave me cash 'for the damage' and every time I see his Dad in the Pub he buys me a pint.

Just because the kid is a fucking prick doesn't mean the parent's are!
