Bit of an announcement, this. I've been thinking for a while that we should be more involved in actual activity offline rather that just discussion online, which includes shows, events etc. As a result of a great deal of hard work by a great many people, we now have a few successful events under our belt. I think its fair to say that we've pretty much covered all angles so far as club attendance at shows.

Along side this, I know many people are interest in doing more shows, more events such as track days and things which start to become not just about Corsas but about all vehicles, where the emphasis is on the hobby rather than the model of car. Specifically, a number of people are working on track events for this year which if we restricted to Corsas only wouldn't be massively well subscribed and we would probably have to compromise and allow other cars to ensure numbers are met and the event is viable.

For that reason, we, the CS "team" plan to open a sister project named 'Weekend Racer'.

This project will sit alongside CS in terms of administration, finance and expertise but will have a distinct member base, started from scratch. The eventual aim is that we have two distinct web sites which effectively compete but which have different audiences, different styles of moderation (ie. WR is stricter) and ultimately, different opportunities which take advantage of the economy of scale that having more people on board will bring.

I plan to advertise for members as well as putting CS resources in to the launch to ensure that things go well for the inaugral WR events.

The first step is that we will be opening an incubation forum on CS, which will become the first posts on WR, migrated over when the site opens. At this time, the member details of anyone who has contributed will be taken over, so I anticipate we'll give the site a healthy start with around 300-500 interested users.

While the incubation is taking place, the visual designs will be worked on so we have a WR 'brand' with which to launch.

For those people who love CS for its genuine interest in the car plus banter on tap, things will stay the same. We'll still have the same core membership, same presence at shows for CS and same moderation and admin team on board.

For those people who either left the Corsa fold, or want more serious discussion, or want to get out there and enjoy whatever vehicle you own, hopefully we can cover that base as well.

ok, obviously you know that there will be a fair few CS members that will make the transition over to the "WR" website, which will boost numbers when the website finally goes live. how are you plannning on advertising the site to bring in new members?

I'm thinking mags which also target the same people, ie. not boy racer mags.

Could do a lot online and word of mouth but we've a budget for traditional methods.

So ultimately CS will stay 'as is' in terms of forum moderation and content (open to all members including those who don't own corsa's) - I am specifically focusing on Off Day here

The new forum is going to be an 'all marques' type forum with less of the banter (pistonheads style maybe?).

Sounds like a plan....

The focus is on actually getting out there, rather than car models, but yeah, older audience.

excellent, it would be nice to watch this whole idea grow, and see how it takes off, can i also ask how you are going to make this idea unique and make it stand out from the websites/groups that are already around

From a technical perspective it will be as quick as CS. We do have a bit of work to do as there are some very large sites about but we've done some looking around and there's definately an opening for a site which is small enough to get regular events going with a proper friendly club feel, but large enough to be financially sound and well staffed.

Ultimately it is a bit of an unknown, but I'm happy to give it a go!

well from what you have said it looks like it is a fairly good gamble, as as i said before, you will atleast have a good initial member base to work from, do you think that you should distance WR from CS abit, i dont mean that in a bad way but the member base of CS is a fairly tight group, and you dont want a carbon copy of CS, you need something fresh and new

Maybe we could move some of the more serious projects over from here too, like Bendy's track car and Broster's car.
