Not really looking at getting a new car, although I'd love one. And a diesel at that, because of the miles I do & motorway driving.

Anyway, the 1.3/1.7CDTi cars would be out of my price range if the 12v-er went pop (and I know they are the best ones to get. And yes I know there is a difference between the 1.3 and 1.7 in terms of performance).

But what is the deal with the 1.7Di and 1.7DTi?

What is the difference?

Am I right in thinking the Di is still a turbo?

Are they ridiculously slow or bad on economy?

You can get the DTi in a Corsa C can't you? (I know you can the Combo/i!)

mate has the Di in his Combo yes it is slow, he traded a scooby in for it though

It is on the other hand VERY economical

DTi is the old engine, its perfectly fine in a Corsa. Just not as refined as the CDTi units.

1.7 di is turbo with no intercooler about 60 oddbhp

1.7 dti is intercooled and 75bhp and 123 lbs ft dti only comes in pre facelift sxi and ellagance specs

So, if I ended up with a Di, it isn't going to be much quicker than the 12v but may be better at 'cruising speeds' on the motorway?

So in terms of price range, to get a good car, say £3000, the DTi is the best one to go for?

In terms of fuel economy, I would be better off with the DTi instead of say, a 1.4 16v?

I would have thought the same age 1.4 would be sufficiently cheaper to pay back the difference in economy.

I don't think you can get the Di in the Corsa C, or I have never seen one. Not that I have particularly looked.

I'd go for a DTi over any petrol if fuel is your concern as it will inevitably be better.

i wouldent evan think about a di tbh, it would b quicker than a 12v though due to the extra mid range torque, dti is alot better on fuel than the 1.4
id go for a dti, or evan better save some moneys and get the 1.3

Ideally, by the time I graduate, good 1.3's in what ever form will be within my price range. At the moment, for around £3500 tops, the 1.3 has been used and abused.

Would there be much difference between the 1.3CDTi and 1.7DTi in terms of performance?

I just dislike the 1.3 engine to be fair, economical yes but I just hate driving them.

i much prefared to drive my 1.3 to my mums old 1.7 dti,

may be half a second quicker to 60 if that

my dti was a cracking engine.

I had it remapped to 100bhp and 165 torques. It flew for what it was and was really good on fuel too

I am saving as much as I want. The deal is my parents paid for my sisters tuition fees as it was the old system - they have saved 3 years worth, for me to do as I please when I graduate. Either new car, pay of student loan, etc etc.

But I don't want to get into all that

Im considering the 1.7CDTI Sri in the next year or so.

Great performance for what it is and highly tunable DTUK (Sure GSi_16v vouch for it as it's mentioned in his signature) and they come with
some nice extras too, example a/c and 5-spoke alloys (far as im aware) B-)
