following on from the theft of our track 32..... Its only been a few days but i have little faith that i will be returned.

So... what now?

We have both decided to do it again, with a 32 GTR again.

BUT....

Do we start with a rolling shell and get the cage done (as we planned to do with the grey one), then source an engine (poss an RB30 from RIPS in NZ), susp, brakes etc....

OR

Buy a known working decent spec R32 for 10k+ and work back/forwards from there? Get it to the end of the summer and then maybe refresh the bearing and fit cage etc, respray blah blah

each has its pro's and con's and the 2nd option of buying a car will be the most cost effective IF the engine holds out for a while! Idealy money and time no object we'd start from scratch... but its real life and they are large factors! The ins paout will be crap and we're going to need to stump up a lot of money either option to get to where the last car was.

I've tried to get intouch with the guy selling a 32 shell with cage, but he seems to ignore my attempts.... bizzare. Now sold.

Been in touch with AG Motorsport about fabricating a cage, but he doesnt seem too interested and works with 40mm tubeing.

If it comes to it, we'd (fee) sell on this years TA spaces and aim to have a car for next year (and keep an underfed pitpull in the car at all times). Best case would be to catch the last few rounds of this year.

royal pain in the ass either way... but a hobby is a hobby, you cant just stop doing it. Its just a bit extreme.

Start from scratch with just the shell. That way everything you add and put into it you know is going to be exactly what you want. I plan on doing the same thing beginning of next year. Good luck with what ever you decide though, im sure its going to be good!

Buying a complete car is cheaper and would get you back racing quicker. You always have the option of selling that to build one from scratch at a later date.

Get a shell with a blown engine if poss, strip it & start it from there.

Try & get it done so you get at least 2 races under you belt to iron out any issues, ready for next season.

starting from scratch wont see us back this year i'm afraid..... being realistic

I'm 90% sure that a known working solution is the best way.... I know parts that i'd like from our last build, so if the susp isnt quite up to it its an easy (if costly) change.

I need to log out and in again too feckin woman

Maybe its just me, but would you not consider a different car, given the opportunity? Or is it more down to familiarity of the GTR that you'll have another?

we have more experience with skylines....

I (we) did consider an Evo, but they are for 1 thing more expensive to buy in the first place (for an evo i'd want :S )

Then, if we went for it, it would be like starting from fresh with no knowledge of what we thought worked, didnt work etc.

There is a few things I wouldnt do to a 32 again, and some i'd def want to do again.

Impreza comes into the same story'ish. We've had one before just didnt do much with it.

are you getting a full pay out (inc mods) for the car that was stolen?

anotherwords do you have similar budget as before?

For something like track attack you'll want your car to be perfect functionally... so unless the car you're buying is a ex track attack car it may be best to rebuild it from the start again.

payout will prob be half of what we could have sold it for, 25% of build cost.

Its not TA pro class we are aiming for... we'd need a budget of 50k+ to even get near that.

Club Class isnt that extreme... decent susp/brakes will see a decent powered skyline ok.

Budget will prob be the same as the last one.

PS... TIME Attack

is club class split into different sub classes like FWD, RWD, 4WD etc?

I know someone building a clio 172 cup for time attack club class.... but then i thought jesus it'd get raped by the skyline etc

there is Club F/I or N/A at the moment... may be further split into drive ( FW, RW, 4W)

I think the clio may get a pasting though.... but the NA class was quite close last year... but there are many more much more powerfull cars this year... GT3 RS, RS4, race spec ITR's etc

4 Jeff Mileham TVR N/A
12 Steve Fitzpatrick Audi RS4 N/A
39 Craig Winstanley Mazda FD3S RX-7 N/A
40 Mathew Pewsey Renault Clio 172 N/A
41 David Thorpe Honda Civic Type-R EP3 N/A
42 James McDonald 427 Cobra N/A
49 Tim Chandler Porsche GT3RS N/A
54 Damon Gray BMW M3 EVO N/A
91 Paul Hughes Honda Integra DC5 N/A

Just read the thread above.... maybe it'll surprise a few of the bigger cars on the smaller tracks

1st one is a good one to work from....

There an ex AsMori race car for around that (10k) price... 630bhp and some nice bits to boot.

Not overly keen on big single route, and just something about the 1st one thats :S

To be honest AK, I think it'll still get thrashed... like Porsche GT3 RS

But yeh if the clio is like 240 bhp, LSD, etc etc it may be fairly competitive.

I've also been on track days with that guy 'fmp' and fuck me to be fair it was when my rear ARB wasn't attached so i was suffering massive understeer, but still his clio trophey on semi slicks thrashed my car.

dunno, N/A, F/I seems a fair class divider.

For example Touring cars has N/A rwd, fwd cars competing, but FWD can thrash the rwd lexuses and bmw's in some scenerios.
