Right time to bring the lid off the can of worms, now obviously the X16XE is approx 40 kg lighter than the C20XE so undoubtedly will be better for B road handling etc, but on straight road acceleration, is there a great deal of difference between a tuned X16 and a stock C20?

Which is more reliable for tuning? I'd love a C20XE, but have reservations as my X16 is a year 2000 engine, where as the C20 is from like 1990+ so guess more unreliable than mine.

Views/comments/opinions welcome

Mixed views there

Tempted to tune the 1.6 as it seems quick enough at the moment, but fancy the XE. It's like the devil and the angel arguing on my shoulders

Xe's are reliable enough if the preparation has gone into the conversion. (rebuild etc)

I've had mine 3.5 years now and (touch wood) hasn't let me down once! Regular services and its spot on

C20XE all day.

I was doing over 350 miles a week in mine, was no difference in reliability than my 1600 only it used less oil and less petrol !

I found it made the car much more fun

Legitimate question...

If you think the 1600 has so many benefits over the XE then why don't you sell all the 20XE bits and build a 1600?

if the 16xe is in there dont touch it!

power to weight...

put car on a diet...

inlet, cams etc and you'll have a quick little 1600 I did it to mine and love every second of it

if the engine is 40kgs more try and get the weight down to what the 1.6 16v would weigh, put battery in the boot and rip out the aircon and get fibre glass wings etc

Search x16xe vs. c20xe, that many different views your head may actually explode I remember spending about 5 hours one night reading through, was originally thinking tune an x16, then I don't know how many things I read that made me change my mind, just kept thinking, ahh never thought of that 2ltr it is, next thread, ooh good point 1.6

Everyone's got an opinion on it but the opinions vary so much, you've just gotta weigh up your situation, read through a few of the vs. threads, go through the pros and cons of each and decide what's best for you

I've decided on a c20, although if I already had an x16, I don't know what I'd go for, I'd probably still be trying to decide in 12 months time
