Is it just my photoshop that doesn't pick up NEF files?

Is CaptureNX the only thing to use with them?

Photoshop doesn't read any type of 'raw' file at all I don't think.

My canon outputs a .CR2 file as its RAW data. My Canon software converts this to a TIFF which Photoshop will be able to open without loosing much (if any) data.

Ah right, i thought it read the actual extension "RAW"

So converting to TIFF would be better than JPEG then? (keeps more quality?)

Yeh, each maker has a different RAW file extension, which is why Photoshop won't open them.

Yep, go for TIFF. But if you were going to get them printed online, people like Photobox will only take a JPEG file annoyingly.

No worries. Can't say I'm much better with Photoshop either. The software that came with the camera can do everything I want anyway

To edit Raw in photoshop go to the adobe homepage and download the raw editor plug-in. Personally photoshop didnt need the plug in but hey, i dont have a nikon

Whats good is the raw editor lets you edit everything and view aswell, then save it as a tiff when your finished. Ace

You will need a plug in for ps. Go to Adobe's website and find the Camera RAW plug in for your camera. What version of PS do you have? You might need CS3

When I went to download it from adobe's website. I got the following:

So I ended up downloading it from a third party site, not sure if that's got anything to do with it....

Same as mine, yes.

Alternatively you can get adobes DNG converter which converts your raw files to DNG ones (Digital Negative) These are the same as raw files and are edited as raw files but can be opened in any version of PS

You think it'll have anything to do with the fact the D60 is new, and might not be on their list
