So, the gaffer came to me yesterday a said "Aaron, when I’m at meetings with other Head Teachers, they all have these little gizmos which let them get their e mail and let them on the internet, I wonder if you can get me one?"

So, I’m thinking a 3G card for his laptop would please him.

Does anyone have any experience with these and can anyone recommend one for me to buy?

Thanks

my old company had a load from vodaphone.

Basically, you buy one from vodaphone and just either pay for 'a certain amount' of bandwidth or 'unlimited' bandwidth...

then get the 3g card, put the sim in it.

Install the 3g software on the laptop, put the 3g card in the laptop and click connect

done.

I use one all the time.

I used to use a datacard (orange) and it was wank!

Then I bought a 3 USB modem on PAYG. That is absolutely ace! 3.6mbps.

£10 = 1GB
£15 = 3GB
£25 = 7GB

Obviously on a contract the tarriff might be a bit better.

Modem is £75 from carphone warehouse and honestly, you won't find anything better/easier for the price.

Company that I have had dealings with use one for when they go traveling around the country for basic email and website viewing. Not blisteringly quick, but its OK.

Tell him to GTF with his penis envy and allocate the budget to helping the kids in the school rather than allowing him to get his one spam email that would come during the meeting.

Robbo you corporate whore!

My borther has been with vodafone for years and years, a couple of years ago he got a laptop to take to work and one ofthe Vodafone cards so he could go online - it is a steaming pile! Awful coverage!
He tried to speak to someone at Vodafone about it, got fobbed off with "we'll be upgrading your area soon etc" so stuck with it, when Vodafone released the newer USB ones he got one of them thinking it'd improve - it didn't, spoke to customer service and got the same excuses.
I borrowed a friends Three one, took it to him at work and it was about 10 times faster than his Vodafone ones.
so he's going to fuck of fthe Vodafone one (like I was telling him to do ages ago) and get a Three one.

Conclusion: Just because Vodafone have won loads of awards it doesn't mean it'll be good in every application, I'd look around at coverage in your bosses area first.

Yes it still comes down to coverage at the end of the day

3 do have 100% 3G coverage (and technically zero 2G coverage) whereas we only have like 80-95% 3G coverage

Especially out in the sticks of Suffolk
