Right I've had to put up with being surrounded by non car people for the last 3-4 years at uni! It was a fairly major shock at first, since a lot of my friends back home (and naturally when people were 17/18) were into cars.
When I got to uni, loads of people were like 'hah, you drive a 'boy racer' corsa' etc. Anyway ignored it all, just got used to 'not talking cars'. Got my Gti (which we all know is best car in the world ) but I never talk about cars or my car around 'people' as they're clueless.
Over the years, some topics have annoyed me... For example - Them 'Why is your car so loud?' - Me 'Well it's a straight through exhaust, so it releases more power' - Them 'Is it important to have more power, surely it's good enough as it was?' etc.
and 'Nah you won't beat Matt's st170 as it's 170 bhp and 2.0 16v'
Anyway, just now they're all in my kitchen saying 'who would win in a race'. Note 1 has a 1.1 saxo, one has a 899cc matiz and one a 1.3 micra The one who has the matiz is getting a saxo vtr soon... and thinks it'll be the fastest thing in the world 'It's a 1.6!!! a fucking 1.6!! it's gonna be rapid! probably as quick as yours paul as yours is a 1.6'.
Then all the other house mates are agree'ing 'Yes, that'll be awesome, shot gun a drive in it! Saxo Vtr's are quicker than 106's'. etc
I didn't even pipe up, I just kept my mouth shut as they wouldn't understand but it's like aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagggggggrrrh
Non car people do my head in with their ignorance.

"Saxos are the best car in the world"
etc. etc. etc.

Put some go faster stripes on it and they'll think its the fastest thing since sliced bread lol
A few of my friends were the same about my Civic 1.6 VTI saying it was a grandads car. Then I took them for a blast in it and that seemed to put things right

theres an alloy wheel place and a trye place here so most of the workers cars have the chavest wheels on in the world

Tried that mate, but then i get called a 'dangerous / wreckless driver'
In their mind, you have to brake for the slightest bend - especially considering their matiz would topple over... So when I just plough through a bend flat out at 70-90 mph they're going 'WHAT THE FUCK! let me out!'

Paul, you know of any decent gti's selling for not much?
seen a couple at around £1200-1300. would it be a complete nail for this price?
I know what you mean about clueless friends.
Possibly worse though is people who show way too much interest, constantly asking silly questions, and normally the same ones over and over.
My boss used to race bikes at clubman level, and asks at least once a week how much weight i saved from the corsa and how much difference did it make.

I hate this. This lad at work thinks his mates 1.1 Metro kept with a Audi TT down the motorway, it also does 150miles to £5 I just nod and agree
Isn't it obvious that if you do up your car, and a general car enthusiast that you're going to be in the know, and know when people are bullshiting?

Yeh myke, that annoys me too... when people show loads of interest (especially when they are blatently clue less / dont care) - I got this a lot at my old job. Just waste of my breath explaining it to them.
Myke fuck it buy one £1200 if it's fucked break it for parts - £450 for engine etc. I'll take the rear beam lol.

lol at hanging round with peole who drive a matiz, bet there a barrel of laughs,
Its annoying when you get peole like thaty paul but you chose to drive a descrete car that people who arnt in the know simply wont understand. I like the fact my cars quite discrete, people at work take the piss out of it (most drive like 318 beemers) but then shit themself when i take them for a drive

It's worse, he's done an environmental degree and lectures me on how we should save the planet decat exhaust system you say
Superlite, this is how i feel - I really want just a nice comfortable stock car like a Audi A3 Tdi with leather to drive daily. It'd get respect from the 'non car people' - but then have a fun car / track car for myself / car meets
