Redtop and LET
Redtop is the easiest option as the engines are more available and the actual conversion is proberly cheaper.
But... Would you get bored of redtop power and want more??
Is the psshhh sound really worth that extra money
Just things like servicing/repair costs for LETs i think are the biggest cons as ive noticed a lot of people with LET's are stribing and rebuilding their engine every other day.
You also do need to have a much wider mechanical knowledge for the LET?
If i was to do a conversion on mine i really dont think i could decide which one to have.

it's not the psshhh that you pay the extra for, it's the 33% more power as standard and the ease of further tuning.
whether that's worth the extra £700 buying the engine and higher maintenance costs is a personal choice.

Id say if your handy mechanically/know someone who is and can afford the running costs and any repairs that might crop up then go for the LET

Very true. If you have to think or have second thoughts regarding maintenance on a LET. Dont even bother. They do cost a small fortune.

if you're doing it yourself, then do an XE first.
If you handled that ok, and want more power/can afford it, swap it out for the LET. shouldn't be too big of a job once you've got all of the bits and know what you're doing. can still sell on th XE, so you shouldn't lose out in the long run. just blood, sweat, tears, and man hours

what i want to now is why do people have so much trouble with the lets? they don't seem to be a problem when their in calibras

If i was to be doing something like this, i would have to get a LET. I think i would be disapointed with an XE and would want a LET
If you are wanting it for the psssh sound then a LET isn't for you

After 100,000 miles nearly every part will be worn, battered or slightly fucked but will keep going as its sat there all that time.. once disturbed, (taking out for a conversion) things will just break. Im on my 2nd LET wiring loom let along other parts.

because most lets arent left standard when they go to a corsa, plus its not really desgined for a corsa is it

Id want it for having more power, better tuning potential and the fact they seem to hold their value better.

Id prefer to buy a mint LET Corsa rather than build it.
The decent ones tend to come with extensive paperwork to verify rebuild and services.
It be gutted to hand over £1000 for a let, fit it to my pride and joy then find out its fucked before id even drove it.

Its easy to get bored of the XE if you're sitting on straight roads racing chavs round your local town centre. But they can be made into quite fun cars with the right bits such as proper suspension, LSD, proper tyres, general stiffening/making the car lighter.
If you are sitting there thinking about the running costs and shit maybe you should stick to a 1.4 or 1.6 or something. Even the XE engines can go wrong in a big way, its just cheaper to fix in some circumstances.

COmparing standard to standard, both should be reliable if looked after properly and not got silly high miles. If so, rebuild time.
I got used to my XE quite quickly, and soon though it wans't actually that quick.
I'd go LET, rebuild it and have it running totally standard....if I had the money and desire to do another transplant.

just buy one already done saves you all the hassel of it and you could end up with a better condition shell than yours
