An LG 42LG6000/ LG Scarlet tv!
Amazing spec for very good price. Cant wait to get it, should be here in the morning.
Seems to get good reviews on avforums. Anyone got one?
Anyone know about calibration dvds? Im very new to av setups, and want to try make it something special.

Buy DVE HD Basics on Blu-ray to calibrate it.
To be honest, I'm pretty certain someone would have done it already on AVForums and posted the settings -- have a search for them.
I'd never go for an LCD or an LG but that's just me -- hope you enjoy it.

Use a THX certifed disc sush as monsters inc, pirates of the caribeaon etc. they have a built in set up thing thats fine for day to day use.

Well that was a waste of time ordering lol.
GOt an email today to say its been cancelled as i used a different address to my card address. Whooops.
So ive now ordered it from another company for next day delivery

LG are one if the biggest TV manufacturers, and manufacturer for a lot of other brands

The tv has an optical output, as does the ps3. Can i get something i can plug both optical cables into, and then convert to component?

im not sure :/ its not here yet. if it does, i take it ure gonna say contact ps3 to optical in, then optical out to the surround via a convertor to digital coax

as luke has said, optical only carries the audio - the only comercial digital video connection is DVI (and various other computer based digital monitor ports) and HDMI.
So you want to connect your PS3 (and other HD equipment) either via HDMI or Component, both will do 1080p no worries. And audio via digital coxial/optical to your surround sound processor

The tv and ps3 only have optical out. So i need to convert that to digi coax so i can plug it into the surround sound, but the surround sound only has 1 digi coax in. So i need a way of getting them both in.

PS3 has an optical output
TV has an optical output
I want both of these optical outputs converted into digital coax outputs, and to go into 1 digi coax socket in the back of my surround sound amp.
With me?

Although not sure what digital coax is. Does your amp not have an Optical in?
On mine I wanted my 360 and PS3 to both have optical but I only have 1 optical in on my amp. So I have an optical splitter, which is like a switch and I have the opticals plugged into that and switch to whichever I have turned on

so basically you need an optical to coaxial digital converter? - maplins has a few, and as graham said just buy an optical switcher and plug it in before the converter
im guessing the TV has built in freeview if you're wanting to take optical audio out?
although, i would look at future proofing your AV/Surround processor - get something that does HDMI, and has a load optical/coxial inputs etc.

The TV won't require surround sound (unless you have Sky and you're watching Sky Movies) so just connect the TV via RCA and the PS3 via optical (converted to Digital Coaxial).

Digital coax is like a phono plug i think. Like an rca lead, except it uses digital rather than analouge signals.

What's the point of running the TV's sound through optical when it's only going to be stereo anyway?

Mine hasn't got a single mark on it and I know I was careful at first but I've been leaving static images on my screen for over an hour at a time recently and absolutely nothing...

On the flip side, what experiences do you have with LG?
Yeah it suffers briefly with it, but it doesn't stay permanently. I keep meaning to go back to Curry's and ask them if that's normal anyway. At least it doesn't affect normal viewing.

Both LCD and Plasma suffer problems, 'temporary image persistence' with LCDs and screen burn on plasmas. Main difference is that 'temporary image persistence' can be reversible, where as screen burn can only be eased on plasmas.
And luke, 'pixel shift' is one of many features in plasmas to prevent them from screen burn, so unless you plan to leave it on a static image for over 24hrs then you won't have any problems.

The worst plasma burning I've ever seen was on your LG plasma. I've seen (and setup/calibrated) several plasmas and none have been that bad. You say it only suffers breifly, but a lot of people would be livid about it. I've seen hundreds of threads regarding plasma burning and all the pictures posted have been a tiny little mark (no-where near as bad as yours).
We used to play PGR the same amount. I used to come round yours and I could see PGR burnt into your screen and mine was non-existant. Judging by comments on AVForums and my own experiences, my personal opinion is LG plasmas really aren't that great. The only people defending them seem to be LG plasma owners.
