Just got in from being called out at 4.45am to go to a fatal job.....
Heres the series of events from the collision investigator:
Eyewitness report of Yellow car travelling way too quick
Vehicle (57 Leon CupraR) enters bend at 130mph plus
Knocks 30mph off, strikes solid concrete post at 100mph
Post rips off engine, gearbox, hubs, breaks discs and wheels into bits
Engine lands 40foot from point of impact
Car hits engine, gets launched into air
Drivers ejected from car
Car lands on driver after car rolls in air
Car comes to halt about 100foot from point of impact
Passenger unplugs seatbelt and climbs out with a scratched face to find his dead friend on the floor.......
Not nice, especially at the time of the morning!
Wear your seatbelts people, I dont wanna have to see that again and find out its one of you lot............................
RIP

130mph into a bend?
FFS some people should be confined to 1.0 12v's all their life

although i agree with your statement in the title (i would never get in a car and not wear a seatbelt) i feel that if the people were ejected from the car into the air and then fell back down on their necks, a seatbelt would not stop then from dieing.
edit: read it wrong but still, theres a chance a seatbelt won't save your life in this instance.
sad story though
and 1.0 12v can still kill. it's not what you drive, it's how you drive it

I do wish that people would just wear their seatbelts at all times, such a simple thing to do...yet can be so effective...

i know that but entering a corner at 90mph is still an accident waiting to happen.

*remembers to wear seatbelt* geez, people need to be reminded now. If you dont wear it for anything other then a medical condition you are clearly special.

My gf's little brother half wears it, takes the shoulder bit off to the side. Pissed me right off so i have a go at him everytime. When your sat in the back your endangering the front seat occupants aswell

I know someone in work who stupidly took off his belt entering our works estate. He then ploughed into a truck driven by a polish guy, who was coming out on the wrong side of the road.
He was thrown into the passenger side from the impact. Cut his knee on the center console as he went across etc.. He didn't say he wouldn't have lived but the drivers side had quite substantial chassis/door intrusions, which would have made a mess of his legs and lower body.

I can imagine, I feel sorry for the people first on the scene. Must be one of the worst parts of your/their jobs .

A fireman I know told me a story once of a guy who did a similar thing ^^
he got to the scene of the accident and where the guy had been travelling so fast he hit the back of this other car and his head had exploded..
he quoted " There was just the eyeballs left dangling over his neck"
Enough to make most feel ill

I refuse to drive if people in the back aren't belted properly.
