Essay warning.

Right after having my car a little while it arose that my steering rack was pissing fluid and basically that and the UJ were proper fucked. So rang BM who wanted £700 for a new rack Fook that.
Manage to scource a re-conned rack from a seeming well established company on line who were advertising it for £540 and with your old rack returned within 14days they will give you a £175 refund. Brilliant i thought.

Ordered it up, as expected arrived on time, off to the garage (used these guys for 10years know them very well) they fitted the rack as instructed and gave us the old one back, i put it straight back into the box and rang company next day.

"yes sir thats fine a courier will be out asap, box it up, they will address it all for you you dont need to do anything" And sure as eggs is eggs a couple of days later one turned up, took the box. Job done.

Checked a few days later they hadnt refunded my credit card... Thought id give them a few more days, then promptly forgot for two weeks, thinking all had gone through.

Checked my statement and saw they had issued no refund. Rang up, they said that should be with me friday, no apology for lateness nothing...

Then rang my home number my dad answered as i was at work. They basically told them that we sent them the wrong part back and they couldnt give us the money back. Aparently we sent them a 318i steering rack (where the fuck would i get one of them from>?!) So as you would expect my dad assured them this was silly and we returned the part that was removed from my Mroadster. They still refused any refund, my dad asked if they were going to inform us? They said no its not our duty. (no money being offered for old part, they had basically just stolen from me)

My Dad now suitibly pissed off was basically saying they are accusing him of lying, etc they then said there was no paperwork with the steering rack (there was i boxed it) and other lies....

So now i am £175 out of pocket, never encountered such a disgusting company. Totally the worst company i have ever used. They have 0% customer service skills and are rude to boot.

Now a dispute with the credit card company has been set up and that takes at least a week before anything even starts

Oh, the joys of a high performance car ownership. All gravy till it goes tits up. Exactly the reason dad got rid of the M3.

It's still shit how you've been treated, but the sheer cost of things puts me of owning something like this.

Steering rack is no more expensive than it was in the calibra so its not the car, its the fact a well known company have basically advertised a refund which they never intended to give and were rude as well.

whats the chances someone fitted a 318 steering rack to your car before you bought it?

Did the new one look exactly the same as the one the garage took out?

well theres no paperwork to suggest this and the steering is no different

Garage made no comment about the racks being different. They would have noticed and i would have had a call. They would not have fitted a part i scourced if it looked different to what they removed, i know this from previous experience.

Plus even if this is thecase, i should have been informed. Or the rack returned.

I would definatly not accept that! Say you want your old rack back or your money. Im sure they cant do that. Also think you should name them as i use some companies fairly close to you. Not power steering services is it?

I will name and shame when the investigation gets further, not local to me. Not specific for racks either do all car parts.

Keep you all posted

im pretty sure that they are both pretty much the same as the z3 uses the e36 chassis and alot of the suspensions items etc.

How about going to bmw and asking for the part numbers for e36 and z3 rack and the old rack should have the number privted on it or stamped on.

The racks are the same mate, The 318 are made by Bosch and the other higher performance one's another company.

Only know this cos the MINI share'she same rack as the 3 series.

That's pretty shocking service, despite whther it was the right rack on there or not.

although what's the mileage of the car, and what's a racks usual life span

seems odd.
