Right im thinking about selling my Golf once I come back from hol's (September) basicly its doing my head in.
I still need a Diesel for 7-8 months to do the cross country sprint to work & Ive notice you can get a 01-02 E46 320d saloon for about the right money 6k-ish.
Anyone know if there ok?
Are they really 150bhp???

It seems a bit unlucky, Ive never had an accident in 8 years driving then I have 3 in 6 months.
Also just fancy a change................had it a year come september & fancy a change.

I wouldnt be spending any money if I changed, it would pretty much be what I got for the golf.............add a couple hundred if I needed to.

I had a test drive of an E46 320d similar to that when they were new. Really didn't get on with it. Felt flat, lifeless, very bland and the thing I remember the most about it was that the gearchange was horrific.

i went from a 120d se to a 320d m sport and would say they are very good on the motorway and not to bad on the pick up from a standing start. but thats with the 160-170bhp engine

If the new 170bhp engine is anything to go buy, I shouldn't think the early engines disappoint.
I'd only really have a Coupé if budget allowed. Saloon will be nice though, especially for the commute.

Just get an M3
I found the E46 320d (Old version) comfy but lifeless.

The E46 outsold the humble modeo and generally the press loved the 320d. My brother mate had a 320d M Sport and for 150 bhp it was quick enough and being rwd was a lot nicer to drive than his Mini Cooper Diesel.
Drive one for yourself Colin too many haters and VAG bum holes on this site

Like it has been said, They are comfortable and so on but they are heavy cars and are really flat.
Why dont you keep the Golf til next year and just save the money up, Cos the Golf's a nicer car imo and your happy with it. Just unfortunate whats happened.

Just get fed up John......sure you've been there. Keeping the golf would be an option. I really only drive on the motorway just now anyway, in traffic, sluggish wouldnt be that much of a loss, infact I keep finding myself speeding in the golf so it might be a good thing
Dunno well see, might go look at a few

Brother used to have one, nice car, he hated it though, ended up selling it within a month and bought an m3.
