Just listening to our game against bournemouth, 70 mins and crouch has 2 and defoe 1. Exciting times ahead for us this season again I hope, and yes I know its only bournemouth but you know what i mean. Which players/partnerships are you looking forward to seeing this year?

Personally think they two are half decent players, but both are poor finishers IMO.
Looking forward to seeing what we will have to offer upfront between Babel, Torres and Keane.

I cant agree that defoe is a poor finisher im afraid. I agree about torres and keane, on paper I guess they look like 2 similar types of striker but for some reason I can just see them clicking perfectly.

I think Defoe is a good finisher, needs to have more chances though.
Edit - I mean he needs to create/better the chances he gets!

I bet his shots/goal ratio would confirm it

In terms of england strikers he's the best finisher we've got apparently.
Rank Player Club Goals - Prem 07/08 Goals to Shots %
1 Defoe Spurs & Portsmouth 12 27.9%
2 D Bent Tottenham 6 20.7%
3 Owen Newcastle 8 20%
4 Johnson Everton 6 18.8%
5 Agbonlahor Aston Villa 9 16.1%
6 Walcott Arsenal 2 14.3%
7 Rooney Manchester Utd 11 13.6%
8 Crouch Liverpool 3 10.3%
9 Heskey Wigan 3 9.4%

They are opta stats from april this year. Opta stats are pretty much as accurate as your going to get. Who there would you say converts more shots then defoe?

Better than I thought then, he just seems to have no end product to his play. Always thought it was down to poor shooting but maybe its just no shooting at all

I like to call it 'selective shooting' lol, and rightly so apparently!

so it seems
IMO they are two players who just dont score enough to be a partnership for top team as pompey are seemingly turning into.
Saying that their styles do suit each other perfectly and may well prove me wrong.

Maybe your just seeing the fact that they were two players that no matter what werent given regular starting roles at there clubs. Even then they still got decent tallys for players constantly coming off the bench.

Crouch was our main forward for 2 whole seasons until Torres was signed

Crouch and Defoe is a promising partnership imo, Crouch is a lot better than he's given credit for.

He can be amazing, but he blows hot and cold too much IMO.

Defoe has shown glimpses of being a quality player, don't think Crouch will be any different to what he was at Liverpool.

I think they may form a good partnership tbh, there is more exciting players ready to link up though e.g. keane and torres if we get him ( )

You really need to have some sort of stats on how many shots they have in a game etc.
I would much rather someone with a 10% conversion rate if they are taking 50 shots a game than someone who is making 20% but only getting 10/15 shots in a game.

Not really as half of those 50 shots missed could of been easily passed to another player to score - which is what the forward only shooting 10-15 times is doing

I don't think Premier League managers sign players based on stats like conversion rate of shots like a computer game
